It seems like a lot of knives today have screws and parts that can be a problem. I hear this about the benchmade griptilion and others. I have an old buck knife with no screws or springs. Does it make sense to have springs and loose screws on knives? What is a good folding knife without the springs and screws. Now I am confused!
thanks

There are a lot of spyderco's with pin construction. many folders have "springs" to give them a bias toward closed.

Welcome to the forum. Stick around, you'll like it here.

If you don't like adjustable screws get a Spyderco. Something like a C11 Delica or Calypso Jr. The FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon) handles are strong as heck and they make one heck of a knife.

Most, if not all, folding knives have springs. What kind of springs are you talking about? Do you mean springs like in an Axis lock Benchmade or do you mean backsprings like what swiss army knives and other slipjoints have? Do you mean spring like in a lock back or what?

Personally I think that any knife you buy from Benchmade or Spyderco is going to be a good knife. Regardless of if it has screws or pins holding it together it will be a good knife. Just don't get a $5 knife made in China.

heardheart, I find your username to be disturbing, so what is your point?

I think he was referring to the troll part. Chances are even your buck has a spring although it might not be a "spring" in the traditional sense i.e. coil of wire.

I look for threaded fastener construction.

Even if I don't ever disassemble a knife, its nice to know I can.

And, it allows adjustment of the blade pivot. If the blade gets loose, I can adjust it easily.

With pin construction, to adjustment I have to compress the bolster/pin area of the knife or lever it apart. That process has been hit or miss wiith me.

But in both methods of construction, the quality of the knife makes the difference. Low quality parts/workmanship, the knife will "disintergrate" with use.
