Hi, all. I just stumbled across this forum while trying to research a Gunto my boyfriend came into possession of.
I've been learning quite a bit, but is there a database where I can try to translate the kanji and decipher what the markings say, or can anyone translate this for me? It's the only photo I have until I can get over and take my own pictures...
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Your sword is signed, Hishu Dewa no Daijo Yukihiro. There were around six generations in the mainline Hizen Yukihiro lineage. They generally signed using either Hizen no Kuni or Dewa no Kami. Without a recorded mei as yours is signed, this would increase the likelihood of it being gimei. However, it could be an unrecorded mei. Your best bet for obtaining the best possible opinion regarding the mei's legitimacy would be to submit it to shinsa.

It may be mounted as a gunto, but I do not think this is a gendaito. Photos of the full tang and koshirae might answer those questions.
