The sword in this day and age has its limitations. It is now confined to aficionados of a modified piece of steel whose usage has long sunk into the pages of history.

It is now confined to museums and period movies churned out from Hollywood studios.

However, there was a time when the sword reigned supreme. These were times, centuries past, in Europe and in the East when the sword was used as much for utility as it was for offence and defence.

In such circumstances, those who carried the sword with them wherever they went learned to be good in wielding them. There were times when their lives depended on their proficiency with an utility cum life-preserving tool.

In the East, the sword reached dramatic heights of efficiency. The styles and sizes which followed suited the times and the dire circumstances prevalent in distant lands.

In mediavel Europe, it is believed the sabre, rapier, and swords of various makes and styles were forged by makers to fit the gladiators' demands.

In those times, the sword as it were, reigned supreme.

Today, we are still talking of the sword but only in historical context or academic interest. Almost nobody walks around with a sword strapped to his waist or tied to his back or knapsack, except for movies (Highlander, Blade, etc).

Interest in this particular model of steel has been knocking on the door of public interest for some time now but the response has been poor or barely discernible.

But it's nice to know that through the sword, we can learn something about history of peoples, land and cross-cultural influences through the ages.

May the sword be with you all. Wield it carefully.
