In the unlikely event that ....

I was wondering just now, how many folks involved in today's tragedies in N.Y. and Washington were lacking even the most basic tools of survival such as a pocketknife and, perhap, a keychain flashlight. How many of those have said the dreaded phrase "Why the heck would I need to carry around a knife?"
Just another reminder that it's better to safe (and well prepared), than sorry ... no matter where you live and work.

I had a Sebenza, Leatherman Wave, and a Leatherman Micra on me when things hit the fan.

Actually, I was watching a work TV when the towers were hit. When the Pentagon got hit, I headed home just in case. I was ready to throw my emergency packs in the trucks and head for the mountains, if things got worse. All I could think of was..... primary commerce and defense were hit, what's next? That "what's next" was pretty frightening.

That's why I alway carry my altoid kits,multi-tool, Rucksack SAK,AMK-SERE2000, and CS"Gunsite" Voyager; everywhere I go!!

It's too bad that this tragedy will "cause" my 1st post. First of, I wish everyone involved the best of luck and may a higher power watch over us all in the coming times.
Now we can call those who aren't prepared "NOT PARANOID ENOUGH". I can't count the times that I've been nearly persecuted for carrying my gear with me where ever I go. Events like this give a huge wake-up call to all, especially the SHEEPLE.
Keep your eyes to the sky...
Thanks for your ear.

Funny that the people who think you're preparedness is paranoia are the same ones who need your truck when they move, your jumper cables when their car won't start, your tools when something needs fixed, your knife when something needs cut, your...well, you get it.

Keep those who are suffering in prayer.

Hello friends: I just found this thread and thought I would join in. It been 27 hours since the attack and the clock is ticking. Let us pray for those still alive and in need of help.

Good call, Owen. Generally, tho, the folks I help have jumper cables, but they need my truck battery! My wife doesn't need to borrow my knives anymore; she got her own SAK Tinker last week for her B-day. Also, I now have a LED microlight on the wrist lanyard with my camo'ed SAK Tinker, and two small safety pins. Now I feel like I'm ready for almost anything.

On a sidebar: on Tuesday, my wife commmented that, while it didn't make everything alright, she felt a little more secure with her SAK in her pocket. There is a strange comfort in being prepared.

And, Amen, brother.

Buzzbait, it's nice to see someone who thinks like me... As for what's next, the State Department has warned that they don't consider the danger to be over. What could be next is anyone's guess, I would look out for major transportation hubs, water supplies, and power companies. I hope their security is alert.

I agree, OwenM, keeping folks in your prayers is always a good thing.

I agree here, although in this case, I think you guys all missed the most important survival tool that many people DID have: their cell phones. Calls have come to the rescue workers from beneath the rubble, from people saying they are trapped but alive, and giving their approx. location.

Calls bewteen people within the towers helped many find exits in the dark and smoke, and helped them give each other sit reps so they knew the degree of danger and could accordingly..

Pretty wild...and thank god for cell phones in this case.

Brian.
