I know a lot of you find these "In the Works" posts interesting and hawks right now seem to be a "hot" topic so here goes......
Mark Williams of Williams Forge and I are doing this as a UBF collaboration piece. Mark sent me this pipehawk head and handle a while back and I just got it hafted. The handle is tigerstripe/curly maple which was "stained" using the traditional 18th/19th century Aqua Fortis reagent method and is the process of being finished with a traditional homemade linseed oil/varnish formula ala expert Eric Kettenburg. It has a brass mouth piece and the brass sheet in the picture is intended for an end cap and a collar just below the head. The rest of the items shown will be used as decoration on the haft......What will those be? Well ya'll will just have to check back and see Progress reports will be forthcoming
The head was hand forged by Mark from one piece, including the bowl. Steel is 5160. It has been decorated with period style filework and was then etched to give it an aged patina.

Thats a hell of a nice hawk sir.

Really like the curly maple tigerstripe, ses off the damascus very well.

If you were to sell something such as this, the price range if you can?

Brownie

Howdy Brownie - thank you from both Mark and I for the compliment. The head though is NOT Damascus (we've got some in the works though) - it is plain 5160 that has been age etched.

As to price info please contact me off line at chuck@wrtcleather.com

It's beautiful as is, and I know it's only going to get better.
I look forward to the next installment.

Beautiful work WR and Mark. I own one of Mark's hawks and you two have me thinking about another one.

WR next time you and Tai get together tell him I said hello. He speaks highly of you.

I still owe you a pair of Gloves Gus and I need to mark your hawk for you. We will be at Trackrock again this November, tentatively set for the w/e of the 5th and 6th. Hope you can make it.

I have just taken a look at Wild Rose and Wild Rose II. The aged patina is certainly very eye-catching. It simply oozes elegance and that old-country flavour.

Needless to say, my heart beat wildly for a few seconds!!
