After doing a dozen hawks and axes over the last couple months I thought I'd see if I remembered how to make a knife. I had the blade for this one laying around for a few months and finally got around to heat treating it and putting it together. I've got it rubbed out to 320 grit at this time and hope to finish it off tomorrow after I get my taxes taken care of. The blade is W-1, 11" long with a 9" false edge. All the fittings are different types of wrought iron. The guard came from a old railroad bridge, used a piece of anchor chain behind that and the butt cap is wagon wheel. The handle is a small elk crown. I was wanting to see if I could use the anchor chain without having to remove any of the outside. I had to take just alittle off of one side. I ended up hollowing out 3/4 of the anchor chain to cut down weight. Its 17 1/2" long.

I like it. It has the look and shape I like to make. I can't see the chain behind the guard though. Is this intended for the Buckskinner or SAS type. They would love it.

Riley, I'll get some better pictures when I get it all completed. As it is the texture of the chain is pretty simular to that of the stag. I actually try to target the groups you mentioned but there's other collectors that go for my work.

If I werent so dang poor, I would go for it myself even as a knifemaker, Ray :) I do love your style.

MR. HAWK MAN , you've done it again. Your just like that energizer bunny, hawk, bowie, hawk, hunter, hawk, bowie, and going and going. Nicely done.

IG, I think that was from the chain I got from Goddard although the chain I got for you is identical to it.

Wow, Ray, that is very nice.
Did you clay coat the blade for the quench? It looks
like you got a nice hamon working there.
Regards,
Greg
