to put a swiss-tech utili-key on their key chain?

the chances are slim of gietting caught and you can easily say "oophs!" :D !

I just want a little cutting edge around and it has one. I carry some magnesium in my mini-kit for flying so it be a multi use thing.

is it worth the risk?

is there a risk?

Not a good idea.

Some dude flying back to Columbus got past security with a belt-buckle knife. Doofus called from his stop-over, Pittsburgh, to a Columbus radio talk show host, and explained that he "forgot" about it (essentially an OOPS).

He was promptly arrested upon arrival to the Columbus airport.

He has subsequently had Federal charges filed against him.

This just happened last week, so final verdict on the "OOPS" plea is out...

I pack all my sharp pointy things in my checked luggage, then use a bundle tie to seal the bag. It has a zippered compartment on the outside, so I duct-tape a UtiliKey on the inside surface, then stuff it with a couple plastic "laundry" bags, and zip it up. Been doin this for 3 years now, never had any problems.

When I get to my destination, retrieve the UtiliKey, cut the tie, and "get dressed".

A belt buckle knife is a "hidden weapon" to the eyes of the public, so we cannot compare it to the Utili-Key.

I have not removed my Utili-Key from my keyring, and I have flown around a lot with it.

A Utili-Key is definitely not a weapon, it has a blunt "safety" point, and no way to grip it securely in order to use it offensively.
If you want to harm somebody, you would rather use your car keys as described by some self-defence experts of the past, or maybe a sharpened pencil, but not the Utili-Key...

I wonder if you could get away with carrying a Gunting trainer?

Probably not a good idea, unless you want to lose it. When traveling to Mexico over Christmas, my toothbrush in a baggie in my carry-on was closely scrutinized (they did let it go, though, since 'brushing with intent' is not a crime in any statute yet). They didn't blink at the potentially deadly ball-point pen in my pocket, though. I saw safety razors being confiscated at some places. Put your sharp stuff in yuour check-in bag and retrieve it after you claim your luggage. Never had a problem checking through anything sharp.
