Richard, that's one of the reasons why I'm not allowed to have the internet at home!

My wife tells me no way every time I even bring up the issue.

Forget it, there's no cure! When not at work here during the week, I find my self running up to our local library to use their computer at times. Now that's bad!

Whatever you do, don't ket a kit and make your own knife. Your problems will multiply exponentially! Hey, Maybe Bader, Burr-King, Cold Steel, Benchmade, Spyderco,... should sponser a Knife Nuts Anonymous therapy program!

Richard, welcome to the BladeForums family!

Boy do I hear that all the time,

~You love BladeForums more than us~

~You like knives more than us~

sorta gets ya right here....doesn't it?

So I reluctantly get off the computer so they can have a turn, because obviously what they need to do is far more important....and what do they do? Get on mIRC and chat with their friends that they saw all day already...???

Gee now I feel better...

G2 OUT..

Thanks to everyone here, my wallet is pretty empty again. I just bought my first really nice knife today. BM-910S. It is suh-weet! Worthy of the Asian Janitorial Apparatus himself. How fast should the liners break in and move to the center. When I got it, it was a little bit to the left, now its perfectly center, and I've only been playing with it for an hour. Does it break in quickly to get to the center and then wear out less quickly? I hope so, because at this pace, the liners are going to move all the way to the right in two months or less, and I don't think paying 150 bucks (I payed retail + state tax) for a knife that only lasts two months is justified. I removed the clip, cuz it was annoying. Now my knife is sexy smooth!

Comrade,

Feels nice to finally get a real knife, huh? Anyways, about the liner, do you do flick openings? Personally from experience, flicking them open can really kill liners.

BTW, try asking in the review section.

Richard welcome to the forums.

Don't worry. You are just experiencing some of the early symptoms of your membership.

Nope, I don't snap hard with my wrist (flick) to open. I only use my thumb. I rarely flick, and if it is a flick, I flick very lightly. I'm mostly worried that the warranty may not cover the liner. It says that normal wear is not covered. Well, I think for a 145 dollar knife with a lifetime warranty (though limited), I should be able to get a new liner if I don't abuse it (flicking it open constantly) and it busts down from very simple (abnormally light wear, so I guess not really "normal wear") usage. I just want to rest assured that if the knife starts to wobble up and down because of the liner getting weak, that I can get it fixed.

I don't think I'll have to worry too much about it until a couple more months though. Does the Axis Lock knives wear out like this? I might get an axis lock next. Yes, it feels great to finally have a real knife, not a little toy that can cut (though thats pretty much what this is).

Also, does removing the clip count as "disassembly"? For something called a removeable steel pocket clip, I wouldn't think that is disassembling the knife into component parts if I decided to unscrew the clip and take it off. Hrmm, I have a thoroughly confused individual... Most of you think I'm strange for pampering my Benchmade so much, but I'm young, and I don't got much money, and this thing is my baby.

richard,
Welcome to the forum!!!!
I just got back from Gander Mountain in Duluth a couple of hours ago. I used some of our tax money to buy myself a Kodi-Pak by Outdoor Edge. My wife wants to know what those three knives can do that my new RTAK can't do. Boy does she have a lot to learn about knives!
One word of warning. It only gets worse. My wife also wants to know how I can spend four hours at a time at one place on the internet. Sometimes I wonder that myself, and yet, I'm here every day.
Weird.

Take care,
Jim

p.s. At least you can take some solace in the fact that there aren't any decent knife shops in Duluth.(Wal-Mart doesn't count) Can you imagine how little money you would have if you could actually pick them up?

Comrade,

Axis locks aren't supposed to wear out like liners because they have no friction between the lock and blade.

No, removing the removable clip does not void the warranty. And hey, if it did, how are they to find out.

I think liner wear is considered as "normal wear," but if you email Benchmade about your story, I think they would probably help you out.

I'm new to this forum too, and I'm quickly getting addicted. This forum has already lead me to buy a Spyderco Wayne Goddard light weight, Spyderco Wegner, Spyderco Sharp Maker 204, Large Sebenza (WAHOO! I just placed an order tonight, can't wait to get it), and other sharpening accessories (leather strop, steels). Oh yeah, and I can't forget the Victorinox Swiss Tool! Lets see, I think I've done all this damage within 2 weeks! Somebody stop me! Hehe. My girl friend thinks I'm nuts (been dating her for about 5 weeks), and I try to avoid this forum when she's around or she'll ask me a question and I respond "Huh? What?". Or I'll be like "I'm so excited!" and she'll say "Cause you get to see me tomorrow?" and I'm like "Uh, well that too, but I can't wait to get my new knife!" hehe. I don't think there is any cure, unless you buy everything you think you'll ever need, but there's always going to be something else you just have to have.

I got tired of hearing all the complaining that I was hogging the computer so I bought my wife one of her very own computer with a seperate ISP.

We do not discuss the price of my toys. Once I broke Sebenza barrier, with a large and a small, the price of customs seem a lot more reasonable. I spend a lot less on production knives and much more on customs.

Hi Richard, welcome to the Forum. I have to agree with Bo & say the only solution for you is to buy another computer & have separate internet access for it. It will keep the kids happy & your home peaceful. Believe me it works, I had to do it to keep my wife happy. {P.S. there is no cure for BladeForumitis}.

my wife complains too...but i tell her.. Im not at the bars and Im not spending any money...so she cant say much after that!!!! there ARE worse things to do with your time.

Well I always thought it was kinda silly to spend more than $50 dollars for a knife so I'm at a loss to explain the recent purchases of a small sebenza and a busse mean street. I'm under some kind of spell or somethin'. And then, of course, there's the grizzly grinder, the band saw, drill press, delta sander, and bench grider I just bought...

About 6 weeks ago, after buying my first Knife Magazine in 10 or 12 years...I flipped! found blade Forums about the same time I had a DSL connection put in..Now I can surf FAST! read every topic and learned so much and am getting caught up (in more ways than one).. ...Yesterday a buddy and I drove more that 600 miles round trip, from the SF Bay area down to the Solvang Show and back..When I told my grrl friend we were not staying the nite she said "Guys!" It was a super show, met a bunch of famous Master Knife makers..was thrilled to meet Frank Centofante and Chris Reeve..It was my second knife show, went to one long time ago in San Jose Ca.. it was my buddys first show and he was impressed!...We got back and when I told my grrl friend "Robert and I saved over $600+ because we didn't buy any knives" She was shocked and said "Guys!" She doesn't know about the Umfaan I bought 3 days ago off the forums...HAhahaaa..OH man I can't wait to get it now that I have actually seen one! HAhaaa
