Hi,

I would like to know when the Buck Custom 972 Presentation Dagger was made. How many did they made? The one I got has the #0076. I also got a verify letter wich is signed by Charles T. Buck, it is dated 1989. So, is it also the year where they made it?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Frank

Frank1974,

Welcome to the forum.

I know very little about the customs Buck has done. I did go to the Buck Collectors Club website to check if there was any information on that model, there was none, sorry. Wait a few days...there are knowledgeable collectors that stop in and will most likely give you some information. Preston

Hi,

in the letter wich came with the knife is written, that the Blade is made out of 440-C Steel and the handle is fitted with a brass guard and the handle material is of Ironwood from the Arizona desert.

I think the Catalog # was 1751???

Maby this Information helps?

Frank

Frank,

The year stated in your Letter of Authenticity would be the year that your 972 was made. Daggers were first made in the Buck Custom Shop in either late 1980 or early 1981, but they were model number 971 and called the Commando Dagger. There is virtually no difference between the 971 and 972 other than being called a Commando or Presentation Dagger. In 1988, the 971 began to be called the Presentation Dagger. Then, in 1989 the model number was changed to 972. The 972 was made until the shop closed in 1993. According to the Custom Shop Log Book, there were 251 model 971s produced and 102 model 972s produced. The serial number that you have (#0076) indicates that your's was the 76th model 972 made.

Hope this answers your questions.

Take care,
