I am the ONLY person in my new office who carries a folding knife, except maybe the tech guy. I worked as a car salesman for years at my previous job, and pretty much everyone there carried a knife for cutting banner string or opening boxes, so I got used to always having one on me. Now, I hardly do anything that requires a knife. I generally carry a Manix 2, which is still considerably unnecessary for where I work, but my wife bought me a Microtech Socom Elite as a gift for our anniversary, so I carry that now. This knife is LAUGHABLY inappropriate for office carry, but as my thread title suggests, I don't care.

Tina at the front desk needs a bag of pretzels opened? No problem Tina!

Shredding old documents? Bring em' to my desk!

Scary spider the size of a penny hanging out on your decorative desk plant? Consider it dead!

This is my life now. I am fully aware of the fact that the Socom is a little too much... but I carry it anyway.

I'd love to see pics of other knives that might be considered "a little too much" for where you work :D

(I caught the spider in a cup and set it free outside)

Ummmm, I'm no marcinek but, although that may be an interesting outlook, it certainly is not the way to get the non-knife people to see the practicality and appropriateness of carrying a pocket knife. Maybe your co-workers take it as a joke (that is great) but most places would not IMO. :(

True! Fortunately I live in midwest Kansas. Not too many "knife shy" folks around here :D

I went from an IT Help Desk job to a more typical office job and I have had the habit/need to carry and I won't stop. I have changed what I carry but less due to the job change and more due to the knife love and learning. I used to carry less expensive tools to beat and use. I now carry more traditional and better quality tools that appeal to me for various reasons.

Well... I do use knives at work pretty regularly, but most of that is on day shifts. Evening shifts involve a lot less interaction with inventory. As such, I’m very particular about what I favor during the day, and loose on closes.

I’ll be closing tonight, so...

Yeah. The Esquire will get used. The DOC... maybe, maybe not.

Right on man, carry what you enjoy. People will see it and over time realize that it's not the knife they should be afraid of. It's the person.

If you intended to do harm, I'm sure you could choose something that would cause more harm than a folder.

Carry what you want! I carry a Military, Police 4, or a K2 on occasion. They are all to big for my needs and illegal in Seattle being over 3.5” but I don’t care. I like them, and I carry what I like. I don’t plan on opening them up in front of a cop or someone who might freak out about it. And I don’t look like someone who should be questioned about anything nor do I bring attention to myself!

Not sure what I have to do with the subject and I thought we were supposed to talk about knives not members, but...

If it is wildly too much, keep in mind that many "looks" may not be coming from people who do not like knives. Their look may have more a....how do I put it...psychological basis.

That said, are you going to get hassled by a boss for having that knife?

If not, enjoy it. It ain't against the rules.

My first job was a used book store. Books came in to be listed online, all boxed up in all manner of shipping containers. Sometimes in whats called a Gaylord (pallet sized cardboard box, quadruple walled stuff.) so EVERYONE carried a knife. Most of us were country or homeschooled kids, too, so it was often a contest to see who could bring in the funniest work knife.

I brought a Khukuri, once. :D

I luv it!! I live in Tennessee and have pulled out a full size presidio 2 at a restaurant due to sucky cutlery and not 1 person bats an eye lol. Opening toys packages at bday party... no problem! Lol. I’ve never had anybody freak out over a knife.

Every situation is unique , people and their tolerance for such a display of an obvious weapon varies greatly .

I'm happiest if no-one knows I'm armed , unless I need to use it for SD . At that point , intimidation is good . Otherwise it's unwise , in my book .

I work in a field that can be a mixed bag of views on pocket knife carry, but I'm generally ok carrying what I want, as I don't generally advertise. I still, inevitably, always become the "knife guy" though it remains amicable with the office folk. I've sold, given, and suggested many knives to coworkers along the way too.

While the knife you carry may be larger than is needed for the tasks at hand, it doesn't seem like it is creating a lot of conflict . If your fellow employees have no problem, then I certainly don't see one. When there is conflict things get a lot trickier and I feel the knife should be somewhat appropriate to the situation-no use causing waves needlessly. At least for me it only requires picking a different knife out of the drawer, and I like a small discreet as much as the larger tactical. Not carrying any knife is a hardship, picking the appropriate one for the situation-no problem at all.
Sorry-no photo but if I was to put one up it would be of my Bowie :)adding a little context. I work at home, and even there the Bowie would be a bit much for the office.

Ummmmmm, I'm no BluesBender.. but I highly question the usefulness of a knife that size in a office atmosphere. Its complete overkill for any task that you may encounter and is just asking for ill gained attention.
Leave the sword at home. :D

I personally *EDIT Courtesy of Quiet* couldn't care less about the delicate sensitivities of the sheeples. It's a freaking pocket knife with a 4" blade. I could inflict far more damage with immediately accessible objects in most every environment.

I carry a 8.5"-10" OAL folder at all times!

I suppose I did lie about the sheeple's sensitivities however. I also carry a teeny weeny SAK for them, as I'd hate to see them spooked!
