A little help, please.

My black Texas cowboy boots with the extra pointy "J" toes look great with a suit, jeans, or Class A uniform, but I just can't decide which khukuri is best for W's swearing in.

The way I see it, this black tie-and-boot event needs something kinda dressy. That means wood is out and horn is in. Should a fancy blade be considered, or will it stay sheathed? If so, then only the handle and scabbard will be seen. The pickin's are modest here.

The Cheetlang might be the obvious choice, but mine has a very nice rosewood handle (sigh), as do the MJ's, 25" AK and WW2. That leaves the Afghan, Balance, and SN1 and WW2 Zebras.

What to do? If I had just bought that Kothimora from Craig I wouldn't be in this mess.

Wow ! Lt. Dan I have the same problem! I think we should opt for the Kothimora or Zebra SN1....When I think of The past administration I get sick.....Names that always got me Nauseated were: Hilary, Albright, James Carville (he is funny though) Leon Panetta, Mike Mccurry, rosie odonell (loves clinton and gun control), Janet Reno (the Waco incenerator) The Reverend Jesse Jackson!!!!!! and the list goes on...Also think about the Task force Ranger personel whom died in Somalia..I knew one member of the battle and met others later...that was under the clinton camp too..... Thank God its all over with!

Forumites, I'm leaning toward the Afghan, because "everything's big in Texas" and it's such a graceful and powerful blade. What are your own khukuri choices and why?

PipeyCain, I wish I had a Kothimora for this very special occasion, especially one with a with a fancy handle. You have a good memory. I'm grateful to be in this situation to have such a problem.

Lt Dan - I'm going to the swearing in and the parade tomorrow also, and I wouldn't get 10 miles from the capital with a khukuri!

I know you're just kidding, but man! What security they have. My unit is marching in the inaugural (25 marines from the unit anyway). They are being sequestered TODAY by secret service! And they're getting dummy rifles to carry! Imagine, they don't even trust Marines. Actually, I'm pretty bummed because I had the chance to march as company commander for the detachment, but I wasn't around and another Captain jumped at the opportunity. Oh well, I'll get to actually see the President that way. I can't say how excited I am to see "W" take his victory march!

I special-ordered mine well before the Governor announced his candidacy...

I'll wear it to the inauguration sitting in front of the TV, and avoid the security checkpoints and the lousy weather

.

I'll be there in spirit only and will take in all the festivities by television, so the security thing is a non-issue for me. It might be a good moment to give thanks and celebrate with some friends, tho. It's just gonna be wunnerful!

Berk, it looks like you've got it right...very nice.

Oh man, I just can't decide. Now the Zebra SN1 is lookin' good. But then again, the WW2 is even BIGGER!

What's everybody else wearing?

Lt. Dan, I second that "it's gonna be wunnerful!"

Next, I think Berk's caught the spirit.

And actually, I probably will celebrate by wearing jeans n' boots in honor of W's home
state. A NASCAR T-shrit, and an NRA ballcap (because the liberals hate those).
By mid-morning I'll top it off with a gun show (catch the rest of the inauguration on tape with a beer in the evening).

You know, two things are going to happen virtually simultaneously tomorrow...

1. Washington, D.C. will host a grand inauguration of an honorable man.

2. Washington, D.C. will cleanse its colon.

And the symbolism is intentional.

Some of "them" of the past eight years should be stamping license plates (i.e. perjury, theft, conspiracy, TREASON...from a list charges too frustrating to post at such a positive time).

Lt. Dan,

If I wanted to wear something with understated tones of elegance and power, I would choose the GH 20 inch Sirupati. Mine is nice on the waist, good in the hand, and has a beautiful horn handle.

Of course, jewels can be worn on or off the scabbard.

I think I'll send a khukuri to dubya. I might get a visit from Secret Service, but what the heck. Dubya is worth it!

I can't wait till tomorrow - I'm blessed to be going to the parade and then to an inaugural ball. My uniform is pressed, and I'm ready to welcome honor and integrity back to Washington!

Amen Craig! Let us know in the forum how it was to be there as Shame and National digrace left the Capitol and Honor and honesty found it's way back!

Y'all make me smile a mile.

Craig, how was the inauguration, and what khukuri would've been best to wear to one of the black tie-and-boot balls?

Say, WHAT KHUKURI WOULD "W" LIKE??? Do you pick one for ranch work or something for the Oval Office? (maybe WW2 for ranch; Ceremonial Service, Kothimora, or pick-of-the-litter SN1 for the OO)

PipeyCain, I think you're right, the Zebra SN1 is my best look.

Chris S., it's jeans, cowboy boots, and maybe my old Washington "Bullets" cap (the boys found one for me after the p.c. name change to "Wizards").

DD, you're bound to make a real fashion statement with that GH 20" Sirupati.

Dan (All dressed up and no place to go!)

Ball was amazing. I'll post pics later today. As for the khukuri, the best bet would be the jungle fighter - simple, strong, and sharp.

It won`t suprise you to hear that I have dealt wwith the SS Protective SVC. before. They are OK. Go ahead and send the khuk.

They are not the "Jack booted Thugs". That is ATF. Same Dept.; very different.

Since when do we pay Marines to be unarmed?

Why have Marines?

I want my money back!

This will not go unnoticed the next time you want money. You are not even trusted with small arms, and you want what?

When I started reading this thread, I wondered what the HELL these bloody fools were arguing about! (Remember I'm a furriner....)Then slowly recognition dawned upon me and I knew who "W" was! Can you believe it. Well, all I can say is GOOD LUCK to y'all (Texas drawl) with the inauguration and may peace, prosperity and good management come increasingly to the States! Little secret: I've come into some money and am contemplating getting a.... wait for it....kothimora!

Johan! It's a good thing that I was sitting down in a sturdy chair when you spoke the word "kothimora". When you get one, I'd like to hear about it and if it's a life changing experience. (Craig may even still have the one at a great price in the GH Catalog "Specials" section.)

I guess all the "W" talk can be elusive to those in other countries...sorry about that. To give a little insight, it's hard to express the joy shared by many here to see this new administration come into power. I doubt that you have heard of the dishonorable deeds of the past 8 years unless you suscribe to some of the small conservative newspapers. Most of it here never makes the national news (some 90% of the reporters vote liberal and write accordingly). There was even vandalism by the Clinton staff when vacating the offices at the White House complex. That's just a small example of the past leadership style. So we're excited to have a man of honor as president, who will appoint people of integrity to key positions. It looks as though we now have the leadership this country needs, instead of what we deserve as a nation.

Thanks for the well-wishes, and I hope to hear from you again soon.....Dan

Funny, Johan! The correct way to refer to him is "dubya."

And we are out of kothimoras, but are getting more in about two weeks.

Ok; so the class of people that tear W`S off of keyboards is gone. Can the Marines have real rifles now?

The CINC is not afraid.

Pretty please! I am.

I'll be sure to let you and the other forumites know if and when I get the kothimora! This new acquisition must be the "piece de resistance" of my collection so far. But since I wrote my previous reply to you, I started to get a brooding feeling that a khotimora's blade is not engraved...! I searched amongst my pamphlets and brochures and photocopied papers, and ...found no indication that the blade is supposed to be engraved. I'm waiting now for information from Johannesburg to throw light on the matter. If in fact the khotimora is not engraved, it will just NOT suffice. I will have to get maybe an 18-inch Dragon ceremonial with rosewood handle. The reason for the wooden handle is because I already have two horn handles (on my SN1 and Ang khola), and I WANT variation. But the scabbard on an 18-inch is the ordinary buff skin over wood, and I already have two of those! Maybe I'm gonna have a problem.
