Last week I went to see Inception starring Leonardo DiCaprio. I was really biased against Leonardo from titanic, but after watching several excellent films by him: Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island (okay not amazing), now Inception.
The movie is smart, witty and action packeted with a self consistency and creative storyline to support the amazing circumstances it portrays. Critiques - too long by 20 to 30 minutes or so. Yet, I don't begrudge the $8 (Tues night) admission fee. A great adventure, visual feast and enough adrenaline to keep the ticker pumping.
The movie does seem to heavily borrow concepts from Dreamscape an old and somewhat uninspirational Sci-fi film about dream assassins. However, they clearly disengage from the stereotypical 'if you die in your dreams you die in life' cliche centralized in the above as well as in the Matrix series. Sometimes you feel a bit overwhelmed by the intricate complexities of the plots, yet the world they produce and the self consistent rules they generate for their world is intelligent and fascinating fodder. Lots of eye candy, action and terrific landscapes.
Highly recommended.
Two nights ago, I saw Salt with my wife. Its pretty crappy and they somehow seemed to even make Mrs. Jolee non-hot -how the hell do you do that??? They did!!! Go see Inception instead!
