I've been seeing a lot of new guys here lately, which is definitely a good thing. I have learned a lot from this place, and since lots of people seem to have difficulties putting pictures into their posts, I thought I'd give back a bit to this wonderful community and post a complete how-to.
The pictures you will see in this thread will likely be a bit unusual for you, as I use a very unusual browser and Ubuntu Linux. I'll do my best to explain and show everything so you can understand it best.
A few basics:
- the address bar is where you enter the address of a page, for example www.bladeforums.com. My address bar is located at the bottom of the screen, yours can most likely be found under the title bar of your browser window.
- URL: this will be one of the key phrases here. The URL is the address of a picture, a video, a website, or anything else on the internet. In order to include a picture into your post, you will have to put the URL of the image into your post.
Let's get started, shall we?
This first picture shows a picture from my flickr photostream. I will show the procedure for flickr because I think it is the most complicated hosting service for this matter.
This is what I have seen posted a few times lately. You cannot post the URL of this page, you have to take a few more steps.
Right click on the Image, and flickr will open a so-called context menu, which will let you select a size. Select the second option, 640. It is just the right size for posting on most forums.
Clicking the 640 link will bring you to this page. It shows the picture in the size you have selected, and all other size choices. If you want it bigger or smaller, select a bigger or smaller size. Right click again, this will open your OS's standard context menu for images. Select "Copy Image address". I apologize for being German, my OS says "Grafikadresse kopieren", which is the same thing.
If you do not have this option for some reason, you can do the following thing: Click "Display Image" which is called "Grafik anzeigen" on my computer. Then copy the image's URL from the address bar. My address bar is at the bottom of the screen, yours is likely to be at the top of the screen. "Kopieren" is German for "Copy".
Either way you will end up with a URL in your clipboard that you can paste to your text editor when you write your post. Click the tiny framed picture of a tree that my cursor points to, and you will get a little text box. Paste your image's URL and click OK.
The code you get will look like this, without the spaces in front and after the IMG:
[ IMG]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3205/5740522856_03ece59d22_b.jpg[/IMG ]
That's basically it. You can use this same process to post a picture that was uploaded on another hosting site or a picture that you found on the internet, using google image search or something similar. Just get the picture the same way that I just showed you, and copy its URL, either by using the context menu, or by copying the image address from your browser's address bar.
Have a nice day.

Edit - Mods, can we include this in the ONE thread?
- everyone. PLEASE do NOT use the "How To" prefix when asking for help in a thread. Use "Recommendation?". "How To" makes it look like you're providing information, which makes baby Jesus cry.
