Brett sent me this pic of a blade he's putting the final touches on. Should be getting a short "S" guard, collar and an African Blackwood handle. Mmmmm, looks lovely! ;) :)

Looks like it will be a very substantial and impressive piece - love the upswept sothwestern shape.

Blackwood is a very heavy and dense wood. Very oily, so stabilization is usually not even attempted. Generally considered less likely to crack or split than Ebony. One of the best woods, IMHO, for a knife handle.

Great looking knife. African Blackwood will look great on it.

African Blackwood is the second densest wood on the planet as far as I know. It's right behind Lignum Vitae, which I also like.

On the density scale, Lignum Vitae weighs in at approximately 83 pounds per cubic foot, whereas African Blackwood is around 82 pounds per cubic foot.

That's sweet!
What's with the nice stag scales in the upper left part of the picture? :)

Looks to be just something that Brett had laying around. Possibly for that nice hunter blade laying there?

I think he put those stag scales in the pic just to antaganize me. I do like that swooped back monster bowie blade!

hey Danbo!

Do you still have anything left from what you showed me last summer??? Seems every time I open BFC, you've got another winner being posted! LOL!!!

And I think about the only thing different in our taste in blades is in their size! :D

Another great score...

Wow, that's an impressive blade! I have one of Brett's Bowies, a comparatively small 10" trailing point :) I look forward to when you share photos of the finished knife.
