I remember that ATS34 is a turbine steel for jet engines -inconel has similar applications.

Anyone know if this stuff can be hardened for use as a knife blade? I know it has a lot of nickel in it. -It's just out of curiousity...

Inconel is a family of stainless steel that is used primarily in high heat applications - like steam generators and other pressure vessels.

It has high nickel content, but it can't be heat treated. It would be a poor choice for cutlery.

Tom is right.
It is a high nickel material.
It is tougher than nails to machine also.

For those making dasmascus... if you find it in thin sheet you can use it for a nickel replacemant in dasmascus.:D

I spent a lot of hours welding on Inconel during my welding career. It is used in acid/and high temp applictions as stated. We used it a lot around hydrofloric acid applications and it was also hight temp at the same time. Have made several rings out of Inconel nuts in my younger days.
