Increasing the eye on a hawk - help?

Experts of Blade Forums, I call unto your expertise!

I've had a Vietnam Tomahawk repro for nearly 10 years. Not sure from which maker, but it had a crappy haft which was topped at the top with what appears to have been glass/ceramic. Needless to say it didn't last and finally after digging it up from my Dad's place while I was there for Christmas, I've decided to re-haft it (and redo the entire thing, possibly).

I want to increase the size of the eye as it's only slightly over half an inch wide and oval shape versus tear drop shaped. For the past hour or so I've been going at it with my dremel but it's a painfully slow process. I've never forged anything, nor have the tools for it; but does anyone have pointers on how to increase the size of the eye with either a dremel or any other tools?

Pictures will be posted when I finish this mod.

Thanks!

round chainsaw files and elbow grease :)

Dremels are not at all powerful enough, but if you really want to use it get a round carbide cutter. It is very hard to control in steel. I normally only use them for porting aluminum saw cylinders. You get lots of chatter if not careful. Files will be surprisingly fast if you can get the axe head in a vice and get two hands on the file.
