Hey everybody
In the classifieds i recently found a guy selling a Sonim XP 3 Quest mobile phone. He had ordered it from a store but a couple of days later he found out that he really didnt have any use for a phone of that sorts.
For those of you that dont know the phone you can see it here: http://www.sonimtech.com/features_xp3quest.php
And a Youtube vid to the kind of abuse it can handle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axGOIvHgGew&feature=PlayList&p=3E786E39173B1689&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=1 Thats the older version, the XP1, in the vid. The one i got is the XP3 which is tougher and totally waterproof.
I bought it off him at a real good price and got it today. Now its a nice phone and built like a brick but in terms of functions it cant compare to my Nokia E51 which i carry on a daily basis. The Sonim has all the basic features such as a cam, SMS, calendar, calculator, it comes with a major battery with 18 hours talktime and 2 months standby-time plus a crappy GPS application. But it has no MMS, email, video playback, 3G, MSN, Skype and alot of other programs that my Nokia has.
Now heres my question: Should i keep the phone as a backup or should i sell it?
The Sonim would be great for hiking, travelling abroad, working outside and other activites where a rugged, bomb-proof mobile is needed plus ive also been planning to put a emergency/bug-out-bag together and ive thought about adding the Sonim to that kit.
But on the other hand, my smartphone Nokia has held up excellently in the last 2 years, even dropped it in a lake while hiking, TWICE, and it still functioned after i dried it up. And id would be a shame to just throw a brandnew phone into the drawer "just in case" something happens. I cant remember the last time i accidently broke a phone (ive thrown them at walls in a fit of rage though
).
What do you think? Keep it as backup, use it as primary phone or sell it?
Thanks in advance for your input.
