'Indian Larry' Said Killed at Bike Show

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) - A custom motorcycle builder known for his appearances on cable's Discovery Channel died Monday at a hospital of head injuries suffered during a stunt, officials said.

``Indian Larry'' fell off a motorcycle Saturday while performing before 8,000 people at an arena outside Charlotte. He was not wearing a helmet, the officials said.

Indian Larry was standing on the moving bike when it began to wobble and went out of control, said Mike Downs, Cabarrus County deputy manager. His full name was not immediately known.

``Indian Larry was a man with great skill and talent as a mechanic and metal sculptor,'' said Robert Freeman, chairman of the county board of commissioners. ``He will be truly missed by his fans here in Cabarrus County and throughout the nation.''

Indian Larry, who appeared in movies and television shows, was featured on a Discovery Channel series in which motorcycle builders design and build bikes from scratch, then have them judged by motorcycle aficionados.

Very tragic :( I was not a regular viewer of the show, but on this same day last year I was first introduced to him when he was having a build-off. I remember really liking one of the bikes he built, and from there I started occasionally watching some of the chopper shows. In the first episode of his that I saw, he was supposed to drive a very good distance with his competitor to the exhibition, and his seat kept catching on fire while he was riding because the design allowed friction heat to really start burning it. I remember thinking that these guys are going to get themselves killed after that and some other mishaps. It was foolish not to wear a helmet, but it's too bad it ended that way.

aww man im sorry to hear this...he seemed like such a good natured , down to earth gentelman. He will be sorley missed in the motorcycle world, he was truly an icon and originator of custom bikes....Rip larry...see you on the other side.

Though he gained recent fame through the lame shows they've had on tv, he's been at it for 30 years. Those of us who knew him from Brooklyn and bike shows always knew that he was the real deal in a world of posers and frauds. No dumb occ crap for him.

RIP

I hate to hear that. I got to take a close look at the bike he built for the discovery channell program. It was really cool looking in person. He did seem like a nice guy. Thats a shame.
