Indian River Jacks?

Whatever happened to the run of IRJ's that was to come out late last year? Haven't heard a word about them.

That may be where the giraffe bone handles recently pictured on Instagram and Facebook are headed. Derek said they are going to GEC. IRJs were supposed to originally be ready in first quarter, if I remember correctly.

Like some have mentioned, I wish more would be dyed in the blues and greens, but I do understand wanting to keep a limited number "exceptional" for future collecting or sales.

I thought IRJ's were made by Queen? Do you suppose that the new one ones will be made by GEC now that the 35 frame has been introduced?

Good theory. The 35 frame knives are 3 3/4 " closed just like the IRJ's.

The only holes I can put into your theory are

1) The 35 looks a little heftier.
2) GEC does not use CPM 154 which was a big part of the attraction of the first IRJ's.

While the last ones were Queen-made, KSF had stated that the 2016 IRJ was not going to be a Queen product. I would just guess that they wanted to avoid the issues that accompanied the Everyday Barlow. But, they also stated that it would have a super steel blade, which would seem to mean someone other than GEC?

KSF likes building suspense for their releases, so expect some teasing to be going on.

Wonder if Bark River is geared up for slip joints yet? It'd be interesting for a Northwoods IRJ to be made so close to Indian River Michigan.

I think bark river would make a modern folder before a slipjoint, but that's not an educated opinion :foot:

Since the wheels are turning here, maybe BRKT is supplying the blades, and GEC is doing the rest. A convex ground CPM 154 blade in a GEC assembled frame would be sweeeeeet!!!

Thanks Mike up in Canada. I wonder who will be making it, and what happened with the last unfilled order. Maybe problems with Queen quality killed the deal.

It's unfounded comments like that that get spun out of context, cause trouble, and are totally unfair to the manufacturer mentioned.

Would it still be an Indian River Jack if made by a different firm? ;)

My comment's not unfounded at all and was not intended to harm or insult anyone. I've been a big Queen supporter and have given only positive support through my comments on my Queen knives, despite the defects on my Queens. Queen's quality problems have been beaten to death on this forum, (not by me). I want them to succeed as much or more than anyone. The run didn't come off as scheduled, and there is a reason.
What do you suspect the reason is?

I too really like many Queen knives and patterns and want to see them prosper. Over several years I've had 4 or 5 Indian River Jacks. Not a single one pleased me. I don't expect perfection at all from hand made knives, but they were all very poorly made. One had to be replaced because it was made so poorly and it took them three and a half months to send me the new one. So I'm a bit gun shy of buying any Queen made IRJ's.

Since the giraffe bone is already cut and dyed it makes me think something is in the works sooner than 2017. Some giraffe SFO 15's with the sheepsfoot and bottle opener would be a great Christmas present for me!

The current GEC run is not IRJ.

We are still working to get the IRJ made. They are going to be a 2017 product (hopefully). It will be entirely re-engineered and spectacular. :)

"I just want the American people to know that they still have two outta three branches of the government working for 'em, and that ain't bad!!!" - President Dale

Seriously, though. I have always admired Derrick's prompt responses to discussions on this forum. I've had two deals with KnivesShipFree, they go above and beyond to make sure customers are happy, and as large an investment as a run of knives is, I'm sure that finding someone to make the IRJ's hasn't been easy, since not to many traditional companies work in CPM-154. Last information was given from Tyler was that the next run would be S35VN, so maybe they're Italian, or Steel of the Cold variety? ;) Wouldn't be disappointed to have GEC's 440C either, though, that's good stuff.

This game is more fun if we can get some hints :) So, we know it's a GEC product, camel bone, and not the IRJ. Can you share the blade shape?
