indian wars cavalry sword 27 on the guard

HELLO I"M NEW TO THIS JUST GOT A indian war cavalry sword/saber 34"blade with # 27 on the underside of the guard can anyone advise me of what 27 means is there such a # on any of these swords. thanks

Pictures help. What makes it an Indian Wars sword of any kind? What model (specifically) are we discussing?

27 is my favorite number but on a plain looking sword likely a weapon /rack number. Usually also on the scabbard.

Thank you for your reply. I have not received the sword to look it over before deciding if I should send it back. The pictures don"t show any makers mark but still needs proper cleaning. I"ll try to send pictures if my son shows me how is it possible for a sword not to have makers mark and still be original. thanks again
 
I'd rather not discuss a sword in the process of an acquisition. Upload photos to www.tinypic.com or another host and use/copy the urls with img tags, then paste them in a post here.

There are plenty of unmarked originals and that alone one reason to question what you are referring to as an "indian wars cavalry sword" Sellers are not infallible and without any direct provenance to a maker or importer, often wrong in assuming just about anything as a description.
