I'm going to be attending school in Indianapolis in a month, and I'm looking for a place to live, info about bus routes....

Basically, i know NO ONE in indiana and have never been there before.

The Indiana University (IUPUI) housing office has given me a few leads about apartment complexes, but they don't know a whole lot about buses and the such.

So... locals... any pointers for someone from Canada who's going to be starting the next phase of his life? Where are good places to live for attending Indiana University? What's there to do there? What kind of outdoorsy stuff is available? And, most importantly, where can I buy more knives?

I'm so lost...and I haven't even started yet...

I live about 45 mile north of Indy...lots to do there. I go down fairly often to attend Indian's baseball games...love AAA ball. You will be close to a couple very nice state parks with great hiking trails as well. As hokey as it sounds I would contact the Indiana Tourist Board and have them send you the free info http://www.in.gov/visitindiana/travel/brochures.aspx it contains a ton of info about things to do.

User DBH is close to Indy you might wanna give him a shout.

I think in general you will not notice a large difference between you and the locals as long and you are not a modern cosmopolitan progressive individual.

If you like basketball, you should make sure to attend the IUPUI games. Coach Ron Hunter has done a good job with that team.

I was an Indy local a long time ago and spent 4 years on the IUPUI campus. Lots of apartments west of campus on 10th and 16th streets out by I-465. This gives you about a 20 min ride to campus. The bus system is pretty good and you could probably google Indy transit or something like that and get more info. Enjoy your time there it is a great city. You have the Indians, Pacers, Colts and of course the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. If you get a chance, go down to Brown county in the fall, its aqwesome.
