Hi All,

I have a gentleman in NY who want to purchase a knife from me. I remember that for a while now there have been some issues with shipping knives to NY state. Are these issues still on going?

Basically I want to ship a CRK Sebenza to NY and am wondering if I should expect any issues.

Thanks

I could be mistaken as I tend to stay out of NY threads, but my best understand of the shipping to NY issue is that it is nothing more than commercial knife sellers being paranoid fools. They're afraid of NY's crazy DA coming after them, which to my knowledge has never actually happened to an out-of-state seller of knives. It's the same reason why so many knife catalogs say "Will not ship to MA" despite the knives in question being perfectly legal there.

For one, police cannot search intra-US mail without a federal warrant. At most the postal service can perform checks for drugs or explosives.

NYC is the real issue and even then Manhattan is the one I would not send anything too. The knife you mentioned could be viewed as a gravity knife by the NY staute and court cases. Gilstam, I won't mention the dealer, but I know of one out of state ( other side of the US ) That has already spent $30,000 defending himself against an action brought by DA Vance for sending knives to NYC. I heard of this early on but have not heard any updates...I hope he wins, but then how many knives to you have to sell to pay the lawyers?

Ah. Thanks Tom.

I knew I should have stayed out of it when I saw NY. My expertise is in American criminal law, and Vance's actions have nothing to do with that.
