Indonesian floating frogs

I'd posted on another forum about how our floaty frog got out of our tank through our new filter during the night and made a brief, ill-fated adventure across our living room into a floor vent for our central heat and air where he quickly ( I hope) perished. I found his dessicated remains late the next day after an exhaustive search and was devastated.

So, Wednesday night, Mrs. Feltman tells me she saw floaty frogs at a pet store in Chico. Furthermore, she tells me, most likely to soothe my grief over the original floaty frog, that all the floaty frogs at the pet store are starving and mistreated. I thank her for this bit of information. Thursday afternoon, she informs me we must go and rescue three (3) floaty frogs from the evil pet store. I obey; we drive the half hour down to Chico and go to the pet store of Dr. Moreau. Well, when we arrive, three floaty frogs rapidly turns into four, then five, and by the time she has the little tank cleaned out, we have six (6) new floaty frogs. Almost got a newt too. Not sure why she left it. So, now there is a new ten-gallon tank for the floaty frogs, carefully sealed, with a lower overall water level than our other tank to prevent escapes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they all stay put this time. Crazy Mrs. Feltman is never allowed to go to another pet store again. Ever. Thank god they didn't take her in the back and show her the 300-gallon holding tank full of floaty frogs.

Cool...how long until they are of a size to harvest?

Just kidding...

mostly...

My sympathies on the pain and devastation you must have felt with your loss of your frog, Josh. Perhaps it was his karma to open your home and your lives to the opportunity of harboring others of his kind.

We love our aquatic family members so much that sometimes it's easy to overlook the fact they have the sentient awareness of a cricket. Maybe.

If you had a cat, you'd found the frog embedded in a litterbox offering to the cat god, Felis Dei, as was the case at our house.

May peace and love cover your new frogs' aquatic abode, and possibly Glad Cling Wrap® too.

Sincerely,
Mike

Josh, cool frogs. Where are you? I'm in Sacramento and Chico is only a few hours away, so you've got to be close. (unless, it's a different Chico then..:o )

Funny...*my* cats told me that they were *all* gods and should be treated as such.

Ah! Good point, Nasty.

According to cat theologians, all cats are divine, yes. They are created in the image of Felis Dei, who they venerate as the Great Cat, the original cosmic do-nothing. May his waste inspire others.

<ahem> So, Josh- these "floating" frogs. They are, err, Indonesian. Did they get here via tsunami? Are they Islamic? Hallucenigenic? Telepathic? All four?

It seems certain there's more here than meets the eye.

I thought floating was a bad sign . I had a turtle that floated . He would swim to the front of the aquarium look at me and continue his circular route . After a few of these voyages I decided I wasn,t quite interesting enough to merit all this perusal . Mr floater had gone to turtle heaven . Well at least he had a nice funeral procession , albeit being rather circuituous .

Well, when the first floaty frog got out, I assumed our cat had eaten him, but she was exonerated when I found the dessicated remains in the floor vent.

Between these guys and the African dwarf aquatic frogs, I think we have fourteen total, but I've lost count. Five of those were bred right here in the dome, which surprised even the people at the pet store.

tedwca--I'm in Magalia, near Chico.

"Son, we're really glad to have you back in Innsmouth. There's uh something you should know about the old family inheritence. How do you like to swim?"

:D

I'm more into herps but both Scotty, our albino leopard gecko, and I are glad to hear you've refloated them amphibs. My neice used have a herd of exotic frogs, mostly South American tree frogs, and it always impressed me how she fed and cared for em. She's wanted to become a biologist and I hope her passion toward this end continues. (I need her to develop a set of gills for humans so I can lead an amphibious life.....tired of lugging the Super 80 tanks and having limited bottom times........)

A few more pics because I just can't help myself. They're just too cute! Fattening up nicely, by the way. All of them seem quite healthy and active.

Awesome pics Josh. Love the frogs. Ever have a pac man frog. Did I imagine that species? I have two baby red ear sliders. Silver dollar sized. I used to have a leopard gecko, and a bearded dragon too. She was my favorite. Big enough to scare people, but small enough to ride on your shoulder, and tame as any dog. I put a heat rock on my desk and she would just sit there and watch me do homework. I was really devastated when she died. They're expensive too. Doh.
