Indoor FM antenna improvement?

Is there any indoor antenna that will improve my reception of a slightly distant station? Right now, I can just barely hear the station through noise while using the dipole antenna that came with my tuner. Nearer stations come in strongly. I don't want to mount an external antenna to my roof due to it being in an historic district.

Just run some wire along where the ceiling meets the wall. An L shape is good for receiving stations in all directions. The longer the antenna the better.

I was able to run a piece of wire along the ridge pole, in the attic, and it at least doubled the coverage. Higher you can go the better reception, but be advised to use a good lightning arrestor, with it well grounded.
