Indy 1500 – Knives… where?

Wow. I had always planned to make a 1 day hit and run today to try out the Indy 1500 today (roughly 4.5 hrs each way). The only thing I miscalculated is how long I would be at the show! After 1 hr and 15 mins I had seen enough.

This was a Gun show, first and foremost and I must add that I have little interest in guns. :thumbdn:

Relative to Knives, there were only a few dedicated tables, period. There were only a few custom makers that I looked at and Thatmguy’s Busse table. The latter was really the only thing worth seeing and unfortunately I did not see anything that interested me at the time (several Battle Mistresses – including a nice LE model, a few Game Wardens, several Badger Attacks – including an LE and a 2007 SE, a few Mr. Mojos, a hatchet or two, a krambitt-style, and I think the last I saw was a Natural Outlaw). After just acquiring my first Busse, a Fat Battle Mistress from the BCS earlier, I was hoping to see A Steel Heart, Hell/Mud Razor, or a Satin Jack - but must admitt I did not expect to see these... a man can dream!

Is the Indy 1500 show always like this? I realize that the show is put on almost every quarter; our some shows better for knives than others?

Based on today, I have no plans on ever returning.

Agreed on all counts. I took in my first "Indy 1500 Gun and Knife Show" earlier this year. What a disappointment. It's a standard gun show that wasn't worth the trip. I'd only recommend it to someone that lives within an hour of Indy.

With the Indy 1500 being held 4-5 times a year, 2007 dates below,...
January 12th, 13th & 14th
March 16th, 17th & 18th
June 1st, 2nd & 3rd
August 24th, 25th & 26th
November 2nd, 3rd & 4th

...are the shows different or are generally the some folks at every show?

Just curious to know if Knives are represented more during a certain show.

I attended the June show and agree it was a pretty standard gun show.

Mike's table is always a good stop. It is fun to visit with Mike and the other Busse collectors that come by.

While there, I did shop the Surefire dealers for a weaponlight.

More importantly, I found some really good buys on some surplus ammo - hard to find these days.

Three hour trip for me. Like you, a leftover Bloodbathaganzaaa Steel Heart would have made the drive home much more enjoyable.
