I'll be in the market for a cheap bowie (not neceassarily traditionally shaped) anytime soon.

Right now I focused on a Muela, a Haller with Micarta handle and a 440A blade is also taken into consideration.
But I'd like to know if there are other suggestions.

Low cost is paramount for this purchase (I've got a couple of expensive knives coming before I'll order the Muela/Haller/whatever).

Minimum blade steel is 440A or equal. I doesn't have to be a prybar, in fact I want it to be slim and relatively light. Desired OAL is be 14+ inches.
Handle material is less of a concern, just no stag please.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the tip, looks like a nice knife, but I forgot to mention that I'd preferred a non-coated blade.

That's a shame. Because there are some great under $100.00 Bowie type knives to be had that are very good users. The only problen is they are all straight Carbon steel type blades. The Becker line are just outstanding knives for the price paid. Geez, CS Trailmasters can now be had for around $108.00 from some dealers. Unfortunately, they are coated now.:(
BUT! There is hope. Your already looking at a Muela which are pretty ok knives in my experience. Nieto is another name to look at. They use 440-c(Rc57-59 I think) in their blades and are in the same price range as Muela IIRC.

Best of luck in your search!

All the best,
Mike U.

This may be a little bit beyond "inexpensive"... but certainly worth every cent of the money...

A typical work of "Cactus Forge"... 12 and 3/4 inches 5160 blade, convex grind, stag handle...
