I am going to be getting an AR soon and I was wanting to put an Eotech sight but was wondering if there was any inexpensive sights out there that where worth their money. I was shown a Vortex Strikeforce that is an Aimpoint clone and it looked nice and it comes with the mount and a 2x magnifier was only about $150 but I still like the Eotech better.

you get what ya pay for, i have a small assortment of low cost red dots of different cost and manufacture and i can assure ya a $150 aimpoint clone isnt gonna be as good as a aimpoint, or an eotech, just aint happening.

lots of them arent waterproof, and the dots fade in bright sunlite to name just 2 faults.

thats not to say a lotta folks might would be ok with the cheapies if ya dont plan on any rough stuff, or dont mind the dot washing out in bright sunlite, dont plan on using it in the rain, etc(in other words ya arent gonna put your life on the line with it), but no they arent as good.

imho if ya are gonna go cheap the tasco pro-point is the best of the lot and is gonna be better than most any clone, they run about $110 or so, and look kinda similar to the aimpoint if thats important to ya, and they are a lot better than a $29.95 BSA or such.

Yeah I am going to go with the Eotech because I understand the quality of optics (having sold bino's for almost 3 years) just wondering if there where any really awesome super deals out there.

IIRC i heard on AR15.net one brand of the chinese aimpoint clones was having problems with shorting out or not working correctly, i dont know if they ever got that worked out or not.

i see ya live in round rock if ya want i have 3 or 4 cheapies ya could try, just to see what ya think, a BSA, eotech clone called the phantom tactical, couple others, would be gload to let ya giove 'em a whirl.

Primary Arms on AR15 sells an Aimpoint clone for $68 that's been getting a lot of attention. I bought one for my S&W MP-22 because I didn't want to break the bank for a .22 and so far it's help up pretty good. A lot of the guys have bought them for their .223's and it's been getting good reviews.Check it out.

Better make sure your AR has iron sights and train with them. I don't mean zero them in and never touch them again, I mean put some rounds down range all day for a few days. Take a class with a world class teacher. Make sure you can hit what you want at 200 yards. You may need these skills one day no matter if it's Aimpoint or Eotech. More so with Eotech, a lot more.

Very true, get the BUIS and get some range time first. Also, you do get what you pay for, and saving up for an Aimpoint or Eotech would be worth it IMO. I went with the Aimpoint and mount from LaRue Tactical and never looked back.

Good luck.

I personally prefer the EOTech for CQ Shooting. Very fast target acquisition. It has lower battery life however. If you do get one, make sure you get one of the new XPS versions, they fix all of the problems associated with EOTechs going out.
