Looking for a inexpensive folder for every day carrying. By cheap i mean $40.00 or under. Blade should be at least 3" long. I'm considering these
Benchmade Vex. Heard some good thing about it & a few bad.
Ka-bar Large Dozier hunter. Heard all good things but only 1 actual review.
Spyderco byrd Flight

Already have a Subcom & G10 Cara cara. Very happy with 'em.

Kershaw Leek
If you can find a deal: Spyderco Delica

Welcome to the forums:).

If you have a couple knives that you're happy with why do you need a cheap one to carry around instead?

I'd say to get yourself the large Kabar Dozier (model 4070). I can find one locally for $25, well below your $40 limit. Spend the other $15 on sharpening supplies or maintenance. A Tuff Cloth and Tuff Glide will fit in your budget.

because 1 is never enough.
Kaizen1: i can get a delica for $42.00 but I think the Vex would be better. I like the blade shape.
JNieporte: I Already have a tough cloth but I guess I can get some tough Glide or a spare ceramic for my crock stick sharpener with the extra $$$.

I've seen mixed reviews of the Vex, but I'm sure it gets the job done.

How about a Kershaw JYD, Kershaw Vapor 2, Boker Trance, Blade-Tech Pro Hunter Lite. There are several more but these come to mind right now. GOOD LUCK! Kevin:thumbup:

If primary issue is blade steel, I don't think you can get anything with better blade steel for the money (From Wal-Mart, anyways) for $40 or less.

Spyderco Native or the Native III. Both can be had for ~$40.
There are also a couple of other Benchmade Red Class knives in your price range aside from the Vex. The Mini-Ambush and the NRA Pardue are in your price range.

I'll join in on the spyderco native chorus, and throw in the Kershaw storm 2 for your consideration. great knife for around 29.00. but if you're really leaning toward the vex go ahead and give it a whirl.

SOG has some nice folders in that price range. You might want to check them out.

Check out the "Knives for sale" forum here at BladeForums...You should be able to find a great deal on a Kershaw folder for around $40.

Spyderco Endura for 49$ in VG10.

Almost any of the knives mentioned here especially the 110 and the spydies.
The G10 handled Byrds are supposed to be pretty nice.

My first thought before I read all of the responses was the spyderco Native from wal-mart. Wal-marts are everywhere so if one store is out, there is bound to be another one that carries it. I also read above about the kershaw storm. That was my second choice. The storm is a good knife for the money and is made of 13C26 Sandvic which has a RC of 59~61. It is a frame lock, make sure (if you look at this knife) you compare it to two other storms of the same style, some of them have a tougher lock than others. So choose which one is best for you. Anything else from wal-mart, besides the buck 110, are not worth the money, well the kershaw blur tanto is nice, but everything else is not worth the money.

Don't get the vex. it's a piece o crap. The blade opening feels like somebody cranked down on the pivot screw and its really rough. I've tried more than one too, and i had to return mine it was so bad. The liner lock really rips up your fingers, removed skin from mine. If the blade was smoother and the liner lock a bit better the knife would be awesome. Even if you loosen up the pivot and oil it the knife still sucks.
