INFI and M-INFI?

Modified INFI was used on the "budget" line back in the day, called the Basics. It was supposed to be less expensive for him to manufacture, but quickly became as much. Therefore a "budget" line didnt make sense and they were discontinued.

The specific details of the differences between INFI and M-INFI are not publicly available. Modified INFI was supposed to be a more economical version of INFI, with slightly lower performance characteristics.

I have no personal experience with M-INFI, but I recall that some felt it had it's own advantages, not just disadvantages, compared to INFI

M-Infi was meant to skip the addition of Nitrogen ..... in reality though M-INFI works as well as Infi .... infact the edge holding on my Basic knives is better than most of my Infi blades ..... those Asymetrical edges I guess

Without nitrogen, do they rust worse/more easily? I was under the impression that INFI has such great stain resistance without chromium due to the nitrogen.

Not in my experience .... I have a Basic 5 I have stripped and it is every bit the same as my S5LE for resistance to rust ..... overall though it takes a better edge. Those Basic's were done when Jerry was doing his own thing ... it makes a difference .... I just paid $1427 for a nuclear TTKZ from the custom shop .... it came with a blunt edge .... the Basic 11 I got with an Asymetrical edge done by Jerry had a razor sharp edge ..... the point being that Busse never had a problem with crap edges when Jerry was doing his thing .... since then they have gone down hill .... no one should buy a knife at 1000+ dollars and have a poor edge .... throughout Bladeforums and the custom makers that exist ..... no-one would pay money at this level and get a poor edge .... in the old days when Busse was Jerry Busse you got a sharp knife ..... this Nuclear TTKZ will be my last Busse ..... but the balance and feel of the knife is superb ..... and if you are into knives sharpening them so they do what you want them to do is not an issue ......

I was just "gutted" to find I paid so much for someone not to finish the knife properly and make it sharp ....

Wouldn't they take care of that if you emailed or called them? I know all my Scrapyards came with a butter knife edge that I took to a friend to have sharpened (which would have happened anyway, since I love a deep V grind on everything). But those were 80-200 bucks, I am sorry to hear about your experience, I would call before posting that though.

Although I understand why you would be upset about the edge of a $1,000 plus knife, if you send it back, Busse will take care of you and I'm sure that at a minimum they will reimburse shipping.

If you leave things the way they are you will not be happy and neither will Jerry. So the 30 min it takes to pack and ship the knife will be worth it.

.

Why do you guys jump on Peter like a hungry pack of wolves? Seriously?
If ya don't post no one will know about the issues that others may/will face.

In the last few months Busse has had numerous opportunities to show their excellent customer service by properly sharpening knves after the knife has been sold and shipped.

I think it takes more than two wolves to make a pack, more like a pair, but not a pack. I didnt see any jumping either, just some firm suggestions.

That must be a Canadian thing, nobody jumped anyone, asking someone to resolve an issue with the company before posting on a public forum about the issue just seems like a good business practice. Just my .02.

Let's not take the OP's post off topic .... my comments were said because for me M-INFI has performed as well or better than knives I have which are INFI ....

The Nuclear TTKZ just happened to be in my mind as an example of how expensive modern Infi blades are ...... and how IMO they are not what they used to be ....

Your Basic 9 originally was less than $200 .... and if you picked it up by the edge you would come close to losing your fingers .... I have two and both were razor sharp ....

In contrast you can pick up this NTTKZ by the edge and squeeze it tight ....

The most you get is a red "indent" from the pressure ....

Use your thumb and run it down the blade ...same thing ....

People can then make their own minds up as to why I am dissapointed .... but sending the knife back is'nt going to cheer me up .... I can sharpen the knife myself and have done .... but who would be happy having to do that when they paid so much ?
