Last week I removed my emergency car knife from its place between the console and the driver's seat, because I was going to have to leave my car overnight at a shop for 30K mile servicing. This is the first time I had removed it from its Kydex sheath since I put it in the car two years ago. It is a ZT SH, Satin Finish that I have owned for five or more years. It has sat in the car, and the previous car, through five Alabama summers, with the attendent high humidity and heat. The knife was given a dry cloth wipe down for fingerprints when I received it, and wiped again when it changed cars. I have never placed any type of oil or preservative on the blade, although I don't know what might have been applied to it by the previous owner.
The finish was absolutely perfect (for a ZT) except for the few Kydex marks which were on it when I acquired the knife. I have owned several stainless steel knives which would have had rust on them under the same circumstances.
I have no doubt that if I had used it regularly with the same level of neglect in this environment it would have developed rust. However, this indicates to me that, with reasonable care, rust should not be a problem with INFI (possibly excepting salt water use).
