Has anyone exprienced any rust or stain spots on your infi in or around salt water , boating sailing in the ocean....
The reason I ask is that my wife and I will be going to Greece this year and spending 3 weeks on a private boat going from one island to another.I plan on doing alot of fishing and sailing and of course bring some infi with me..
thanks for the help...

INFI has better corrosion resistance than all other carbon steels that I am aware of. It will rust though. Just don't let it soak in the salt water and oil the edge, or the whole thing if its not coated, every night or every couple days.

Me, I'd do it every night but I'm also kinda obsessive about keeping tools clean.

yes, h1 is a great steel where rust is the deciding factor. in my experience it dulls really easily but also takes a sharp edge very quickly.

It says on the Busse site that INFI is even better than some stainless steels on salt water corrosion like ATS34 for example.

thanks guys I missed that line on the Busse site....
as always thanks for the feedback.....

Do a search yet?

I ask because I seem to remember Contender posting about INFI and saltwater.

I also remember other threads, but cannot recall the authors.

Sounds like a good time over there man.

Be sure to post pics when you get back (or when you're there...)

I don't know if you'd want to use some of that chemical stuff on your knife if you'll be cutting up fish and other things you'd be eating with it. On my knives that I don't use for food, I wipe them down with a oiled rag (motor oil). On my knives that I use for food, I do the same thing but with vegetable oil. Either of those 2 should help keep it clean and rust free. Just give it a quick wipe down at the end of the day with your chosen oil and a rag. I use a couple file blades which are very high carbon and rust easily. They're holding up fine, they have a nice patina. Probably in part to me eating citrus fruit with them.

i used my hell razor and active duty on several offshore fishing trips, just rinsed them and coated with olive oil at the end of the day..... no problem

Hmmmm. Olive oil. . . and a little garlic? LOL

Extra virgin or regular? ROTFL!!!!

(There was a guy on GlockTalk - WalterGA. Professed that the best rust-fighter/lube/whatever was Mobil 1.

I use only mineral oil... it's safe to digest, and it wont go rancid like veggie or olive oils.

I wash off the fish gunk in the sea, and dry them (usually just drag them over my pants' thigh).
When I get back home I wash them with dish detergent and a brush.
I don't oil them afterwards, but I've never had INFI rust on me.
I just wash and dry and that's it.

EDIT: I did make INFI corrode a little once, now that I think of it. I put it in a bucket with a cleaner that has hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient. The blade got some miscolored (white-ish) spots that I could wipe right off with a 3M pad.
