As far as field sharpening goes, what is the difference between the Infi and SR 101? The Infi/Bandicoots are very thick compared to their length. Are they efficient in making fuzz sticks and bow drill parts? The InfiCoot I have access to is in near pristine condition, but I do not want to use it if it is not going to excel at light bushcraft work, making traps and small game field dressing. has anyone used one of these knives for cutting notches in fireboards?

How does the 'Coot compare to the Res-C handled Howling rats in the above mentioned tasks?
Thanks!

I had both the Howler and 'Coot in sr101- imo the Howler is a fine all around woods knife with a great grind and the Bandicoot was more of a bad a** tactical knife. I know Pit here loved his coot as a woods knife, but I really didn't.

I don't do a ton of bushcraft. But I do prefer SR101 for bushcraft type chores. It tends to take a finer edge and hold it longer. It is not as tough as INFI but SR101 is still super tough. For a small knife like an HR or Bandicoot I think it is perfect. Tough, stays super sharp for a long time, and is easy to strop back to razor status in the field. I have never had to "sharpen" SR101 on a camp trip. It holds an edge well enough that a light strop on 1000 grit wet dry sandpaper is all I have needed IF it needed anything.

As for the what blade will work best for your tasks, it depends on how wide you like your blade. If you are use to using a Mora or knife with less depth the Bandicoot should work fine. I use to like the width of my HR Gen 2 and found it very handy. Now I prefer my Bandicoot. I just think it feels better overall. It does whatever I ask of it and it is way more stabby. Mmmmmmm.........stabby.

All that being said, if you have the opportunity to use an INFIcoot......do it! Amazing blade. Too many safe queens out there.

My coot came with a very obtuse edge, which i would have had to knock the shoulders off of
and put a completely new edge on.

Thanks, All!
I thought the Infi was a superior steel, does it only exceed the SR101 in toughness? if SR101 sharpens and holds an edge better, what is the hype all about with the Infi?

To come clean, somewhat, I have had an Inficoot since they came out, it was my first Rat, I had first logged onto the site on or about the day they were selling them i missed out and the ordering was closed, but my name was put on the list if anyone backed out. Somebody did, and that started me on my Rat collecting.

All of this time the Inficoot has been in a bug out bag, and it rode with me a few times on canoe trips, but never used, the Camp Tramp was my main camp knife.
Do to my work, I travel and rarely get to play with my knives, but the knife I have used for a decade now for the tasks I am thinking of using the Inficoot for is pretty tired. ( Cold steel Master Hunter in Carbon V) I have a Howling rat but it just does not feel right to me. It is a fine knife, it just does not call, if you know what I mean.

Use it. Take a file and make that edge nice and fine , sharpen it and you will have a lifelong bushcraft knife. Need help? Pm me.
In the meantime immediately send me the howler. Poor baby gettin no love.

Pretty much my feelings as well.

I've had 2 SR-101 Coots and 3 of the Inficoots. They are all gone, but I still have the Howler I bought in 2002.

Just could never warm up to the coot blade shape, but some love it.
