Some Camping fun this weekend. Camped in Liberty Lake Washington. Great little spot. Chopped a bunch of kindling, made a bunch of feather sticks for the fire. Made a fire with my ferro rod. Ate some pancakes and sausage for breakfast.

Great pics! Looks like a lot of fun. You were well armed for some serious pancake and sausage cutting!

Sooweet! Glad to see someone enjoying some of the last good weather we'll see for awhile.

nice pics thanks
looks like you need to whittle the little guy a wooden knife :D
oh yea and you actually buy wood  shouldnt that be a man law or at least a hog law :p:D

I split like 10 small logs. Cut like 50 pieces of kindling, and made like 20 fuzz sticks (for three different fires......(first fire, my thumb was kinda burning in the dark, like a hot spot from pushing on the spine of the knife. I shined a flashlight on it, and noticed I had split my thumb from just repeated pressure/friction. Tore it before it even had time to blister and bubble up.)
Lots of fun had by all (note to self, the 3 year old really needs his own sleeping bag and pad......little feets and fists of furry pushing and poking my in the ribs and back all night.

Well, my dad has like a million logs, which I have helped cut down, section, split etc over the years (nothing like cutting down a 3+ foot thick monster, and try and section it up and then load it into the truck and trailer, and then spend months splitting it up for winter). My parents used a wood stove for primary heat source all growing up. Now they only fire it up on the cold winter mornings and nights.
But it is both a long drive to the dad's house to get any wood, and I have no where to store it at my apartment (but I do have space for my two large splitter logs......priorities are good). I do need to get my self a decent chain saw (trying to talk the dad out of one of his) and a decent splitting maul, and some good felling axes.

It really does kill me to pay anyone for some wood.

Awesome pics. I have a SS Pumkin as well. What did you use if for, except some fuzz sticks?

yes i keep forgetting that a lot of the forumites are city dwellers :foot:
i have never used wood for heat but am thinking of getting into it as my source is electric and around $7k a year and its not even reliable :grumpy:
i have some friends that use wood and with a few guys and chainsaws and a hydraulic splitter its not so bad , the worst is keeping enough beer around :D

We keep a wood burning stove as a backup during the winter. Comes in very handy during a power outage or storm, when there's no heat and you need to cook food.

Great pics btw, looks like you guys are having a great time as well as enjoying the knives!

Thanks for sharing!

mostly just fuzz sticks this trip. I had to rotate the infi, so the GW did not feel left out. It did all the box opening, food cutting etc this trip. Since the SS was all dirty from fuzzing (it made about 40 fuzz sticks, enough to split my thumb from pushing on the spine....it was dark and I did not notice)

Really, the SS gets more use than any other knife for me. So sharp and so handy, makes a great slicer.

That big knife looks good hanging on your belt. Must feel really good having a chance to wear it all day. That's an awesome knife btw with the mods done.

Great photos; love that D-guard. My folks were never outdoor types and we never went camping when I was a kid. I always wonder what little tykes think of the experience, and how it shapes their minds. It's got to be a good thing....

Stay sharp,

I'm lovin the pics of the outdoors.

On your horizontal sheath in front, is it leather or kydex.

Thanks for sharing

Kydex (looks like a home made one). It came with the GW. It has a convexed edge, and the first two handle holes are filled up with glow in the dark epoxy so if you drop it in the dark you can find it.

you can't see the SS is also on the front left belt in a horizontal kydex sheath (both with tech lock).

Cool, thanks. Just looking for some uses for it, because of the shape.

It really is a very handy blade shape. I can't think of anything it won't do very well for the blade size, except it would not make a great skinner as it is too pointy. You could dress one out easily enough, but for actual skinning it would make a mess of the hide if you wanted to save it. It works great for food prep, dicing, slicing, opening packages etc. It does not stab wood very well, But I am sure if you had to use it on some one, it would be stabbie enough.

I took the curve out of that one by hand on a sheet of glass and sandpaper, then convexed it, which made the point a bit more stabbie. I am thinking of more mods as time goes on.
