I own a few Busse...more than some members, a lot less than a few HOGS. ;)

Love em all for different reasons...some for using, others for admiring. :)

But, hands down...my most USED knife is not pork, it's K-9!

My ScrapMax 460 is the slicing-est sumbitch I've ever held.

It is Elmax and I love it!:D

Now my question:

If it were INFI would I love it MORE?

... in other words would INFI bring <noticeable> better qualities vs. Elmax to this model-- lets assume we keep all other things equal on the ScrapMax model platform such as: blade shape, grind, stock thickness etc.

Or would INFI just add cost? Maybe ONLY SYKCO could make THAT blade THAT well...

What do you think?

PM sent with a lead.

Though the blade thickness might be a touch thicker... You can always have a anorexic Basic 4 reground.

I don’t know brother. I recently picked up my first Busse Elmax off the exchange, a custom shop steak knife, and I can’t get enough of that thing in food prep and of course using it while eating. I would like to see more models in Elmax if anything. I was surprised to see it pick up a patina fairly quickly.

I'd love to see some new Elmax action. I love my 375. Had a buddy use it to process a couple wild hogs and when he brought it back it wasn't hair poping sharp but it would still take hair off your arm. He kills lots of hogs and says it held its edge better than any other steel he's ever tried. To me, a nice thin version of the Rodent Trail in elmax would be the perfect small to medium game knife.

Love INFI for the larger offerings--fantastic properties when dealing with the heavy chopers, etc. ...BUT...
...Would like to see a LOT more Elmax as well, or at least several REALLY slicey offerings in SR101 or even INFI.

I'm a HUGE fan of the thin, slicey Elmax offerings! Personally, I would LOVE to see a 3-4", thin, and hard (61-62 RC) SR-101 offering! Don't think Busse has ever done harder SR-101 like they have with INFI and Elmax.

Specs for the Scrapivore LE state that it’s SR101 at 62-64 HRC. I’ve heard people state the CGs are 62-64, and others state it’s 58-60. Would be great to know for sure what the latest DC were hardened to.

I would love to see a version of the SYKCO Skinner thinned up with Elmax.

INFI > Elmax no matter what. That the main reason I buy Busse. If I want Elmax I would buy others brand :eek::D

My anorexic Basic 4 was the sliciest Busse I ever used....
.....yep....mine is still my favourite if I am cutting up meant or dressing game. It was just made for it. But like many I think it is in medium to large knives that I think INFI shines.

Not I. I find Busse Elmax to be one of, if not the, best HT protocols for the alloy, that I have tried so far.

If I want Elmax, I'm still buying Busse.

Ack, you're right! I always forget about the Scrapivore, despite having several in the house (each of my 3 kids has their own too :D). So there IS precedent...

Busse heat treat > all others!!! That includes Elmax! ;)

Agreed. And I have some blades HT'd by Peters, who supposedly helped Böhler-Uddeholm develop the HT protocol for Elmax. That says a LOT!!!

Just kidding around man :D INFI wont ever has the edge holding of Elmax due to the much different in alloy composition. High alloy PM will always beat any medium carbon tool steel in these category given both good HT.

Here is the description of the Boney Active Duty (BAD) from the Busse Company Store website:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE NEW BONEY ACTIVE DUTY, IT'S BAD TO THE BONE!

Here's a new take on the Active Duty. The Boney Active Duty featured here is a super thin slicer and dicer with a full flat grind at 1/8th inch!

The BAD's are mission specific designed to be wicked slicers!

We have bumped the hardness on these to 60-62 rc for better wear resistance when cutting softer materials and in order to better support the extra fine point and edge.

These by far are the thinnest ground EDC blades to ever leave the Busse Shop. The edge of the primary bevel is ground down to .012 - .015 prior to sharpening and the distal taper extends nearly the full length of the cutting edge!

The tips are VERY fine and are not designed for prying or heavy abuse... No worries though. If you find yourself in a precarious situation and need to abuse your BAD, you are still covered by our warranty..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to see more thin, harder INFI like the BAD but with a longer blade, maybe like the Leaner Meaner Street.

My basic 4 sliced like crazy!!! It’s all about the way the blade is ground in my opinion. I’ve had Elmax blades and I just don’t really like elmax to much. I feel like it needs way more attention than info does. Heck my tglb slices very well if I got the right edge on it. I’ve sliced up about 5 or six whole animals with it (skinned as well) and I only now the edge needs some attention. I feel like infi makes an amazing slicer if ground for that purpose. Excited to try my park ranger in the slicer category

Thanks for the responses! :)

My 460 checks in right at .096 inch AT THE SPINE ... and hell, it looks like it goes down to damn near infinite zero behind the edge

I've set the secondary bevel at 12 dps and you can barely tell it's even been sharpened it's so damn thin BTE...this blade is incredible.

I've used it extensively, although sensibly ... and it continues to amaze me. It's my go to box-breaker-downer...I prefer it to my Stanley razor knife because of the great handle and it slices identically to my touch in comparison, even better because my hand don't fatigue with the Max. I feathered the end of a seasoned pine 2 x 4 that was harder than chinese arithmetic for the helluva it-- touched it up on the Sharpmaker white hones and it sings again. I feel like it could be pushed more if I had to press it into service, maybe some red oak scrap flooring left over from a job?
