INFI for marine use?

Hello.

I was wondering if anyone has used a Busse infi blade in an marine environment? I am curious as to how well it has held up. I have been posting in the general discussion forum under the "H1 Steel Experts?" heading. I also registered at the Busse website forum, but am waiting for a moderator to confirm my account so that I can post.

I am looking for a basic utility blade to replace a Buck Special 119. I need something stronger (but hopefully fairly rust resistant).

Thanks.

I lived by the beach, and my Busses didn't rust. If you read through old posts by the former Busse custom shop director (goes by the name contender), you'll see that he used Busse knives for some remarkable diving and fishing exploits.

Thanks Evolute.

I found some posts that contender wrote from 2002. Infi sounds really promising...

It's the same as it is out of water. It also dries in about a minute. Only the first layer gets wet, which is probably only one layer of threads. Not too shabby.

I use my Busse's in and around salt water all the time. Just give them the attention you would any other knife (fresh water rinse, oil occasionaly) and you'll be fine. If I'm going in the field, and may not use my knife for a while, I'll put a thin layer of vaseline on the uncoated portion of the blade. It keeps it from corroding while sitting in the sheath. After your first use, it's all wiped away, but it will protect it prior to that.

INFI is as good as any other steel I've actually used around salt water. The performance is much better WRT edge retention and toughness, so it's a easy choice for me.

I have used some Titanium knives, and they can't be beat WRT to corrosion resistance, but you can't open a coconut with them!

Did someone say COCONUT? :D My Eu-Mag LOVES to open coconuts. Even more than my FBM!
