how close in proximity are these blades in terms of edge holding, durability, lateral flex, e.t.c.? is there a lot of difference between the two types of infi steel? thanks

Do a search and I think you will find plenty of info on this. INFI and MINFI are not that far apart and SR101 is a slightly modified 52100, which any good knifemaker will tell you is one of the best all around knife steels available.

I'm no expert, but they're pretty close afaik

The main difference is corrosion reistance, with infi being the stand out choice

beerfi?

INFI/Modified INFI Work in the field close enough to the same That I cannot tell the difference, except for a few early INFI knives that were hardened slightly harder than all later INFI knives.

I am a BIG Fan of Modified INFI maybe down the Road some day Jerry will let me tell you why.

SR-101 is better for some applications than INFI, Cutting Sod for instance, cutting dirty grity materials or hard materials like Cement blocks or mild steel.

Nothing compares well to INFI/Modified INFI when it come to edge retention in a big chopper cutting soft clean things like wood, leather, rope, skin, flesh and Bone, yup thats right bone is for the most part in this context "Soft"

Resharpening is where INFI really shines, it stays malleable and ductile after hardening with the special heat treat and remains flexable like a spring as well.

This means for the most part when you get it dull you need only to straighten or steel the edge as opposed to needing to remove steel to sharpen the knife, Steel and Strop then get back to work.

In rope cutting Edge retention test INFI is first among all big knives Modified INFI is Second, I do not know where SR-101 falls in as I have not seen or read about this test being done with this steel.(And am to LAZY to do it myself)

SR-101 seems to out flex and return to straight better than the other two.

INFI/Modified INFI is more rust resistant.

To much typing, thursty, must drink now, Bottle empty, must search for more

Infi/Minfi should resist forceful flexing more than SR101 (at least in the larger knives) as they are through hardened, instead of zone hardened with a softer spine like SR-101.

Can you elaborate?

Peter,

Nope, I can only tease, I prolly should not even do that. Some stories are Jerry's to tell, I can only tease a little

A couple months to go till my five year limit to not show pic's of a most unusual Busse knife is up,,,,but that is a different tease alltogether.

Papa... you killin me!

People send me private messages asking for me to tell the stories. Even though their message box is full and as such replying gets sort of complicated.

Not my stories to tell, while I helped design the the non disclosure agreement template I never signed one.

That does not mean that I think it is ok to tell, just means I would not likely get sued.

When Jerry want's to tell, he will!

Until then

Sorry for my noob question, but which models were made by regular/original INFI (not by MINFI)? Can we classify them. Or when Busse started to use MINFI instead of INFI?
