I really want to know which is the better one between INFI and RWL34 for a survival knife?
Thanks.

RWL-34 is an awesome steel, it won't take the beating like INFI, but it will hold the edge better, at least that is what i have experienced. for a folder or a small knife, for just cutting and light work, i would pick RWL 34. for the "i'm alone after the apocalypse situation" its INFI all the way!

"better" is a subjective term without much real-life meaning... better for a surgical scalpel is not the same thing as better for prying open a car door. Better for a dive knife is not the same thing as better for a wood splitter.

INFI is a phenomenal all-around hard use steel, but some steels will beat it in specialized applications that don't involve gross abuse of your cutlery.

This is kinda like going to the Mustang club and asking if Camaro's are better.

Of course Mustangs are better!! :D

RWL34 has to be better.......it has a longer name, with letters and numbers therefore it must be better.

never used it so can't say.

I can say that there are steels that will do specific things better. Like better edge retention, or corrosion resistance, etc.

Infi is the best balanced.

I do think that there are steels that will give you better performance for edge retention and hard

INFI covers all the bases. All you have to do is modify the INFI blade to your application(s). :)

+1, and I think Jerry would say the same thing.

This is what I would like to have said as an answer to this question.....

The only RWL I've experienced is on a Mikkel Wilumsen folder, I love the folder and the steel does seem to perform well. Busse designs and INFI do seriously rock though.

At the risk of being too serious an answer, do you know the reason it is named as it is?

The RWL is for Robert W. Loveless (yes, THAT Loveless).
The 34 is for ATS-34.

It is a powder-type steel that is pretty nice stuff. Consider it a European version of CPM-154. Jens Anso uses it quite often.

well shoot!

thats a better gimmick than "INFI";););)

If you cant create a better steel...name it after Loveless:) It will sell:D:D

With all respect to Loveless:thumbup:
