I was reading some other threads that where saying infi is superior to ats-34,opinions?

So is tungsten carbide, but it is heavier and trying to resharpen is a bitch. All the steels have advantages and disadvantages. Best bet is to abuse some knives and see which one you like more.

Dude, don't try and start a flame war over Busse vs. Strider, been there, seen that.

I feel both knife companies are AWESOME! They offer the individual a variety of options and product. INFI, ATS-34, BG-42, or what ever, if the knife suites your needs then your set. Look at what you want in a knife and then decide which model is for you.

INFI is better than ATS-34, but so are a lot of steels, S30 for example.

Busse is BETTER, no wait Strider is BETTER, maybe Mad dog is Better?

Personaly i like the Customs from the Strider guys the best, but my money is on jerry hossom for the blade show bowie/fighter contest.

First off Let me say that if you want to know more about INFI, go to the busse forum, do some searches, if you still have some questions i am sure that they can answer them, the strider Forum really isnt the right place for a in depth disscussion of INFI.

Yes Busse is the only company that uses INFI, it is probably mixed up by Jerry Busse is his back yard from the springs of old chevy trucks, he most likely melts them down in a coleman gas fired grill, says the proper incantation then adds the secret ingredient "CHEMICAL X" i would guess that INFI is mixed up best on the night of a full moon.

To get a Strider made from INFI would most likely require some sort of arranged marriage between the Busse and strider families, and those types of things are no longer in style these days (at least in the US).

Let me just say that i am sure that Strider knives would not use any steel or heat treat that wouldnt get the job done.

Let's let this thread die.

I was not aware that Busse was the only company using infi.Just trying to learn some things i'm new to the higher end knives.I plan on picking up a Strider or 2 at blade show though to start my collection.

One more question, how much difference is bg-42 to ats-34?And what other steels does Strider use?

Hi clin4580,
If you go to the Busse forum they will be glad to help you out.
I'm sure they can put you on to "Many" links showing comparisons between ats-34 and INFI.

I would even bet that they will give you a big Welcome.
They don't seem to be afraid of anwsering tough questions and come acrosss as a very helpful group.

And just for fun, look what Jerry can do with those old "truck" springs...

This one has a 9" blade, it weighs Ten (10) ounces, and is made from a 3/16" "spring"...

edited for spelling...

Arranged marriages are out!!!? You mean her dad took my money and doesn't plan to deliver the goods? Ugh, another wasted dollar......

Truck spings...not crowbars darn it....Truck springs;)

It's nice to see some humor between the boards.:D

Can hardly wait to see what every one brings to Blade.
I'll take pictures....

Normal steel with a supererb heat treat will run circles around top steel with a crappy heat treat.

All things equal except the steel, the better steel will outperform for the particular task. Vascowear or Cruware or D2, etc. will cut longer than ATS-34/154CM but they will corrode easier.

Are Striders made from ATS-34 or BG-42? It doesn't really matter. ATS-34 is plenty tough. Even for tacticool stuff.

Jerry makes some awesome blades, that's for sure. So do Duane and Mick. I don't care about the image or the hype or the materials (as long as their good). The big thing for me is how the blade is ground. I prefer the grinds of Striders - just my opinion. Not something I can quantify.

Busse knives are right up there as well.

Cheers...

Striders are made from all sorts of steels, go over to TAD they have some of the oddballs, i have read about striders or DDC's with ATS-34, S30, BG-42, Titanium, and Talonite, there are are probably more out there.

The Busse heat treat is incredible, after reading about it i was in awe, but the Strider knives are done buy this Guy named Paul bos and aparrently he knows what he is Doing :)

Busse and strider both suck for my money United cutlery is best, i am gonna get me one of them rambo knives!

the secret is if you buy a good knife, you are gonna get a new knife, striders and BUsse's are like Merceedes and BMW, they are both good and they each have their own Niches or purposes

The one that "used to be a strut" is mine. I'm eagerly awaiting the delivery.

Jerry really knows how to heat-treat his junkyard scrap. And he never cuts corners--only struts from Yugos are good enough to go into a Busse blade.

Listening for the UPS truck,

Mike

1whobuys/evolute,

the middle blade has got a great shape - what is its length?

Hondo:

I don't yet have it in my hand to give you exact measurements. Approximately speaking, this Satin Jack variant should have a 6 inch blade, and be 11.25 inches overall.
