INFI vs .357

I was watching a show last night called "Manswers" on Spike. They had an authentic samurai sword made by a Japanese master sword maker that they clamped into a vise, then proceeded to shoot the edge with a .357.

The edge sustained no damage whatsoever, and cut the projectile in half. That was pretty cool to see.

The narrator said the sword's steel was folded over something like 30,000 times during the forging and was laser sharp.

It seems to me I remember reading something about a person shooting their Busse with a revolver. I can't find anything on it though. But anyways, it made me wonder how a blade like the BM could stand up to being shot.

Note: They shot the edge only, they did not shoot the flat width of the blade.

I seem to remember someone peppering their Busse blade with something like a .22 to give it a hammered effect.

Hell, somebody shot the flat of a Busse at one time and the projectile lost! .357! Just a .38 with a bad attitude. Bring it on!

I remember that to.

While were on it anyone remember the guy that cut his Ka-bar in half with his SFNO?

I recall a Swamp Rat that was shot twice with a .30-30. The first hit did little damage. The second should have voided the warranty. Eric replaced it of course.

SOG did a commercial with one of their knives splitting a .45 in half....
i think most quality knives can do this if the shot is made right.

just a .357? there's a video of some people shooting a traditionally made katana with a .50 mg. i believe the edge took 6 hits before snapping, shattering each of the bullets that hit it.

found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY7li8Lb1eg
skip ahead to about 4:20 or so to see the action

ummm....

allegedly, during a camping trip, someone shot their cgfbm with a .22 lr after one too many bud lights.

aimed for the spine, hit the secondary grind near the cbt's, and dented it about .25" from the edge. a little light pounding by a fellow hog corrected the foolishness.

An LEO buddy of mine got shot with a .40 through his Okuden rig and the SHBA stopped it cold with only coating removal. He was very lucky indeed.

Speaking of Badger Attacks, how's about a Diver's Knife Jerry!

Any other Scuba nuts our there? Where are ya Paddlin Man!

there is a basic 9 or 7 that was dubbed a dive knife. it had a fully serrated blade, pretty cool looking.

last i remember, kaak had it.

Interesting.....never knew that.

I might start a thread about one later so this one stays on topic.

Thanks for that info!

Out.

Actually, Jerry won't mind. How's this for an INFI testimonial!

A buddy-o-mine is on his local PD Tac Team. The AI (After Incident) investigation is over and the story is now clear to be discussed.

During dynamic entry training he was accidently smacked by one of his team members with a .40, close range. Get this.....he was wearing his favorite Busse (old Badger 5/16") John Wayne Green Beret Style inverted on his vest in an Okuden rig. The .40 smacked the Busse and Okuden Sheath dead center of the blade profile. Ready for the finale.........

The sheath is cracked and I think has a hole from the last time I saw it, but the Badger sustained only slight coating removal, PERIOD!

Probably saved his life (I forgot to ask if he had his armor on), that is rest of the story Paul Harvey and it definitely taint no BS. Can anyone truly love their Busse as much as he must?

I'll get in touch with him and get a pic. He is not a forumite. Just one of the many who specifically demanded an Okuden rig for his biggest knife investment. What a Busse payback eh!

Thanks for postin' that Rick. I don't think I saw the blade before that post hence the dead center error.

Brian made a new sheath for him to replace the destroyed one and I'm 99.9% certain he still has it.

actually that is an easy trick. Sog did it with their special forces bowie also. It is all about point pressure. The edge of the knife is so small, that when the bullet hits it, the psi on the bullet is very high and it splits. No big deal, really. you can make pretty much any sharp knife do that trick.

It is the same reason why a sharp pointy knife can penetrate a "bullet proof" vest, while a bullet can't.

Not only that, lead is extremely soft in comparison to any steel. It doesn't take an intact bullet to kill, in fact bullets are designed to readily and easily deform or break when they hit anything. So any old $10 made in taiwan walmart piece should be able to do it. Not that it's useful of course.. the two bullet halves have barely slowed down and are still very lethal. Only now you'd get 2 bullet holes put in you instead of one. A shot to the flat of the blade is much harder to for any knife to take.

you are all crazy ,ha,ha,
you might be intrested in these things:

(a katana vs a heavy machine gun about 7 shoots)

"they did not shoot the flat width of the blade.",I have seen a video shoot at the lateral of the blade ,and the blade was borken in half.

i have one thing to say ,that the comparsion infi blades with katan is not fair ,i mean , the katana is very very long above 1m (40 inches) ,if you wanta see the real match ,you can test busse ak with a gun shooting!
but ,i also think the test like that , is meaningless
