Hi, all of you
I am in china and i am a buss fan !
but i am still a vergin at all ,
i seen some pics of 3v knife and wandered between INFI and 3v .which is most tough steel !
here, i hope i do not offend anyone else, just a naive quetion!
They are both super-duper steels, with INFI perhaps being slightly "tougher," but the main difference is that INFI is a proprietary steel that is only available in the Busse Company designs (which are produced in limited quantities), whereas 3V knives are available from several different makers in a wider variety of designs.
hah! Uh "super-duper" means "of the very highest quality possible." CPM 3V is a more expensive steel than most, so it will cost more but how much more depends on the individual maker and the size of the knife. I believe that Jerry Hossom (maker of the knife you have pictured) makes an Espada (sword) of 3V, and I know that several makers produce large knives out of it -- other makers who post on this forum include Fehrman Knives, Daniel Koster, Matt Roberts and Bill Siegle. In fact Bill Siegle has a small machete of 3V posted for sale right now: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=630046
As for tests of 3V, I think you'll have to do a google search.
For additional questions about 3V, as opposed to INFI, you should probably post to the link I placed above, because this particular subforum is for discussion specifically of Busse knives. Which are might, mighty nice!
Though it does rust/pit quite easily, this can be avoided with proper care. THey are both fantastic steels but the sharpest edge I own is thinly convexed 3v. I can get my Busses hair whittling sharp but this particular 3V is ridiculous keen. It has something to do with the grain size, I think. BTW it's the knife in my avatar. Combat 7 by Joel Bukiwicz.
I asked a while ago about Fehrman and Busse, the link is below. Fehrman uses CPM 3V, and I like his knives a lot. Read through it, its long. Excuse the fighting that started half way through it, but its still a good read.
