What are the functional differences between INFI and A2? In other words, what disadvantages does A2 have? I've heard many say that they'd use Jerry's A2 just as hard as their INFI with no worries. Is this the general consensus?

Any help is much appreciated.

I own many A2 Barkies. A2 if done right is very tough, holds an edge very well and is easy to resharpen. I'll bet Jerry did it right. My understanding is that the major diference is in the corrosion resistance. A2 will (and mine do) stain and pit. Not as readily as O1, but you have to keep it dry and clean.

A2 is very good stuff  One of the better tool steels out there IMO. And as with most good steel... the most critical factor is proper heat treatment.

I'd rather have ATS-34 heat treated by Busse than INFI heat treated by your average joe.

Since the A2 is heat treated by Busse I would not worry about using it hard. I am sure it can take whatever you can dish out.

INFI has more impact toughness and is more corrosion resistant than A2. Edge holding is about the same on softer material. But since INFI has more impact toughness to resist chipping.... it will also win the edge holding contest against hard objects.

Thanks for the info so far, guys. Lots to think about.
Do you know if it is more or less susceptible to rust than, say, SR101?

Has anyone stripped or beadblasted their A2?

"A2 is worthless. I will send Guyon all my A2 blades."

(Repeat 100X before going to bed).

A2 is somewhat rust resistant because of the 5 % Chromium. It is less rust resistant than D2 and INFI. But its corrosion resistance is better than the carbon steels such 01, 1095, W2, 5160, 52100, and SR101 (Modified 52100).

A2 is very good stuff

D**m, he beat me to it! Do you LIVE on here? :p Get a real life. :D

Give me a break. I'm trying to get to 10,000 posts. Then I'm going to drop off the forums for a couple of years and actually go outside in the sunshine.  :D

All I need is an SFNO to keep me company... :p

Guyon I have sent you all my A2 blades total blade count.

5 blade(s) shipped Priority Insured tomorrow.

Okay buddy. I'm holding my breath. Hope it gets here soon. ;) :D

Encase the - wasn't clear that means I am claiming one of your blades that is
