I realize this has prob been covered in far past. i own an ash-1 and did have a 711 b 4 i gave to my friend because couldn't stand the square choil. I have a ratmandu on order but anyways the point of my thread is in normal use i have a hard time telling the diiference in performance between infi and sr101. Now i only use my knives with wood. I havn't field dressed a chev in recent times. the point of my question is in realistic day to day knife using situations can u guys notice a real big performance difference?

You will not notice any noticeable difference in daily use. If you have the money, go for the infi for the slight increase in performance and value. But you can not lose owning and using either one! :)

Depending on use, you might actually get a slight edge retention bump with the Sr101. You will loose in overall tougness (but so little you will only notice if you are chopping rocks).

Everyone seems to really love the SR101.

I don't have any. I only have Infi, and have used the higher hardness infi as well. Anything you buy from the Busse kin family will be great.

I agree. It's not as if you will make a bad choice as both are great knives. If you need greater toughness, than Infi. Greater high sharpness and edge retention than SR101 ( 52100 bearing steel known for it's great carbide structure with very small carbides and not many of them so good toughness ( as opposed to Infi great toughness), as well as very high sharpness and possibly better wear resistance.

If you are on the West Coast of Canada like I am, go with the INFI. Its pretty damp up here and things tend to rust. My INFI hasent rusted yet, but there was a tiny bit on my Esse6 I neglected to keep 100% dry.

SR101 is absolutely incredible, but as others mentioned, INFI is far more rust resistant. SR101 is a bit of a rust magnet, INFI has proven to be very close to stainless in my experience. I've kept an INFI blade next to an SR101 blade inside in NJ, the SR101 rusted after a summer in an air conditioned room, the INFI is as good as new. Both steels are extremely high performance and both hold an edge through some very, very serious abuse. I doubt either steel will ever let you down despite any abuse you heap on it. My recomendation is buy the knife you love and be aware that if its SR101, take some rust precautions.
