INFI vs. SR101

Wondering if the ~$100 increase in Scrapper 5 price is justified by the use of INFI over SR101. I don't know anything about either steel and I'm looking at two different sales with these knives with different steels, so if I could get a quick anecdotal summary from someone about these alloys and how they'd perform on such a knife I would really appreciate it. Also, I'm having trouble finding specs on the Scrapper 5, specifically blade length, so if anyone knows off the top of their heads...

Thanks so much.

Blade length is about 5" to the plunge line. I doubt if the $100 price increase is justifiable unless it's for collectible purposes. Even so, the INFI version is probably still worth the money it's just that the sr-101 is a great deal. It's an excellent size and shape knife. I'd love to hear other opinions as well.

I think in the real world there is very little difference in the steels. Infi is a bit more stain resistant, SR101 needs to be oiled occasionally. Nothing major, but just a very little bit of maintenance. I have a S5 (5" blade) that is my heavy lifting knife. I also have one of the S5LE's, but am keeping it back as a "just in case" knife. I haven't beaten on the knife, but I haven't found anything the SR101 won't do that the INFI would. If I were to jump out of an airplane into the jungle with just a parachute and a knife, the Infi would be the steel I took. Course, I would die from lack of knowledge in the jungle LONG before the SR101 let me down I am sure.

No, i would stick with sr-101. Infi is stronger because it is so much thicker than most knives in various steels.

I believe ScrapYard usually uses S77 and Swamp Rat uses SR101 (hence the "SR").

I like infi on my choppers and 101 on my slicers......even though 99% of the time you could never tell.

So, unless you want one because it is Infi...well worth it.....if you want the knife because you like the design...save your money.

Both are great knifes, you probably won't know the difference in performance.

The S5 LE (INFI Version) does have a satin finish, so that is another reason it is more expensive that the SR-101.

Both are really good steels...you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference in performance. Now, corrosion resistance is another topic. You will absolutely see a difference in the corrosion resistance of SR101 in comparison with INFI. SR101 develops oxidation much quicker than INFI does. Other than that, take your pick...you won't be disappointed with either.

Oh, and you might get a better response if you post this question in the Busse and/or Swamp Rat forum/s. Just sayin'...:D.

Scrap Yard usually does use S77, but not always. The Yard has also used INFI, SR101, and 154 CM.

The Scrapper 5 CG is made with SR101. The Scrapper 5 LE is made with INFI.
