Infidel Issue?

Hey :)

So I recently acquired a Benchmade D2 Infidel OTF and right out of the packaging it was misfiring pretty badly. About 1-10 times when holding the knife vertically, it’d go off track and it happened nearly half the time with the knife pointed down. Obviously it was a problem so I went through the hoops and sent the knife back to Benchmade.

A few weeks later and I received the knife in the mail yesterday. It said on the order form they “cleaned, oiled, adjusted, and sharpened” the knife and it seems the firing problems are completely fixed. But, when they sharpened the knife (which it didn’t really need as it was brand new) this is the edge profile they decided to use:

As you can see, one side of the knife’s edge looks nothing like the other. I am wondering if this is normal? I don’t recall noticing an uneven grind when I sent it in the first time but am pretty sure I’d of noticed it, but maybe not.

Overall this is a $450 knife that was originally improperly made/adjusted and the blace grind is very uneven. Am I in the right to feel a bit put off? I do not know if this is something I should be complaining about or if it is even normal to begin with. Is this a type of chisel grind or is there a reason for this that I’m not seeing?

I am new to Benchmades so just want to see what you all think of this? Thanks,

Jerry

Yup, the Infidel comes from the factory with the edge ground on one side only. What you see on the other side is the result of the burr being taken off during the sharpening process.
