InFin. My take on the taper blade v square pocket issue (forged blade)

That's pretty cool, I love the way it tapers toward the butt. It looks nice and slim and more folders would fair better or ride in the pocket nicer I believe if they tapered the butt more. It looks like it would be really comfy in the pocket.

Thank you. Yes it does feel much lighter and slicker!

brilliant design, congratulations on creating something really cool

Takes "blade centering" to a whole new level! Any off center with this design will be obvious. You are clearly holding yourself to a higher standard. Outstanding design!

Thank you. Yes the blade is also as thin as it can be to maximise the effect. A lot of fun to make.

Such clean lines. The design is terrific and the execution appears superb. I would like to hold it for about one minute with my eyes shut.

Thank you all so much. Am overwhelmed, the feedback is just so positive, I know it is early. It does give the knife a sleek feel. I would love to make some more and hopefully get someone to feel/handle it and give feedback... I

Nicely done. Keep working on it.

Were you inspired, or did you consider this completely on your own? Honest question.

I ask because I have 30 year old examples of the same tapered design in a folder from a very prominent maker. :)

Completely honest answer, on my own. I first made folders with a hardened spacer for blade contact. Then smaller spacers with a hardened bought stop pin which allowed me to skip the hardening hassle. As I made double detents for their carry legal nature I wondered whether the spacer was really needed so experimented without one (I didn’t need one for a lockback/trad slip etc.)

So I showed the first one I made at Knives UK and nobody had seen it, then on Edgematters/Facebook and IG. I thought if no-one on Bladeforums has seen it then it is likely new, that is why I posted it here. I have only been making for about 5 yrs and therefore do not have a lot of experience/knowledge. Maybe it is weird but of course I can appreciate the skill and excution of others’ work but I prefer not to look too much!

One that came close is a vintage ~friction crude folder from what looks like a solid piece of ebony but it still had a bit of material in the apex pocket (width if you like) and about 1/4 or 1/5 of length in the scales behind the recess apex (not quite sharp and not close to the blade tip if that makes sense). The scales are tapered but not completely conforming with the blade grind and the gap is much more significant. Again I got shown this after a post on Edgematters.

I have also approached a company to check if the design is registered or patented etc.

Thank you. It would be good (or bad) to see the designs and similarities of your example... Ignatius
