INFINI Khukuri!

Look, I know the BM can really chop, but for heavy chopping performance and the ultimate edge holding, wouldn't an INFINI khukuri be great? Several knife manufacturers make khukuris (like CS and Ontario Knives) as well as HI and GH, but they all have flaws that I think could easily be corrected. The new ergo handle with a large 12 inches or so khukuri blade (a quarter of an inch thick I guess). This beast would be able to chew through a hundred-year-old oak in a matter of minutes and come back shaving sharp! Well, maybe not in a matter of minutes, but you get the idea. What do you guys think about that?

Sounds damn SWEET to me!

Well I think Busse took that idea and made it his own. Instead of having the curve in the blade Busse put the curve in the handle. this way it chops at the correct angle for better handling and also better chopping. What do you have when you do this??? I straight blade that can chop like a khukri. This way it can be used in much more applications. I like Khukris too the just look mean but all they're really good for is choping. And the Busse line is capable of so much more. I think a Khukri would be a limited design. A cool design mind you but very very limited. I think we should leave the knife making to the masters IMHO. And definately not to step on anyones toes. Though a 12" or 13" regular Busse would make me cry. It could be called the Battle w-h-o-r-e.

Now that I think of it Ryu, you're right! The new angle of the blade to the handle acts like the curved blade of the khukuri. Although a khukuri would probably still beat the new BM in chopping, it wouldn't beat it by much. Plus, like you mentioned, a straight blade is much more versatile than the curved khukuri blade. Although it would probably be unwise to put it into production because of it's lack of versatility, it would be one badass knife if it did exist! I love you're idea about a 12 inch blade on a BM E. That would rule. Thanks for the replies guys!

Sorry to say that for all of it's faults the Cold Steel 1st gen ATC kukri will chop better
than any BM(it is a bigger knife though)I Busse would make something like that but with the toughness, edge holding hanldes of a BM the ultimate wilderness survival tool would be born. The CS ATC is shaped as much like a Malaysian Parang as it is a kukri.Another incredible tool is the Russiam Aircrew Machete(sometimes called a Spetznaz Machete)would have some design features that
should find their way into the our fantasy machete/kukri concept.

We've been asking for a Khukuri for quite a while, even longer then this thread. I wonder if we'll ever get it.

A Busse Khukri, huh??? Yeah, I'm sure I'd get one, but that 12 inch bladed BM-e... WOW, I'd have to get a few of them!! :D:thumbup:

what's infini?

Hey, he was only like 13 or 14 at that time.... and knew more (then) about knives, steel, and design than most of the folks here will by the time they are 50....

Where is young Mr. Lynch???

This is from August of last year, when he won the $10K Astronaut Scholarship. Figure if he is a junior now, tha would make him maybe 21, so 13 or so is about right when that post was made....

"University of Kentucky — Andrew Lee Lynch is a junior chemical engineering major from Corbin, KY. He plans to follow a Ph. D. program in biochemical engineering because of his great interest in ground water contamination. He has served as a volunteer for several environmental organizations and spent months in Malaysia and Thailand with the Border Green Energy Team. He also mentors and tutors Appalachian and minority science students. "

I heard that he was a regular INFI savant!! :D:thumbup: I remember Jerry talkin' a little about him last year on one of those very late nights @ BLADE... :)

LOL, I didn't until this post!! Slipped right by me... 5/2000, I guess he's officially the first to bring this up, huh? :D

looks like this Lynch fellow got sucked into Busse knives young like I have
thanks Mike :D

Why is there a post by a member above with no user name, no title, no join date nothing?
seems like his name was Ryu
Who was he and why is his post like that?

Oh, trust me. I was only "funning" too. Andrew would have laughed. :D

I met Andrew both both of the last two Blade shows. Extremely nice and articulate young man - not like Hammy or I at all. :p

I saw the date but disconnected on how old he would have been then - no Scotch jokes for a 13 yr old. :o He is old enough for them now.

In fact, it seems like he is old enough that, of the handful of girls at Blade, at least one or two asked me, "Who IS that?! He is cute!"

Have fun in college, Andrew! OP - You've got someone to carry on your mantle of scientist-wizard.

I brought up that a Kukri would be awesome in a recent thread. I (and it seems EVERYBODY else) have an affinity for them.

I like the effectiveness of the blade - I can't seem to get past the grip shape. I bought a WWII model. Great power on impact but those pointy ends keep eatign into my hand.

I could just be a khukuri-idio though. :o

affinity huh?

Tell that to the dozen or so HI's sitting on my sideboard, they'd all think it's funny :D

oh, and I've got another one in the mail. S/b here today.

Yup, like khuk's, I just can't imagine one built with 'modern' technology.
