Inflammatory threads, Why?

Gentlemen, and ladies, please CAREFULLY READ the threads you reply to. I've just finished reading 3 inflammatory threads that were totally unnecessary if only the members had read the original post, had understood the situations that generated them or understood the context in which the comments were made.
All this nonsense just takes the fun out of it.

I agree. Some people just need to read more carefully
rolleyes.gif
or keep their mouth shut. I'm getting tired of member bashing on other members...what makes it worse is how directly blatant the inflamatory remarks are made. Let get back to talking about knives.

So what was the last knife you bought/traded?

I don't know. I keep thinking some of the people posting in Rightous Anger with full throttle flame throwers blazing will Learn from the experience. For the most part, that seems to be the case.

These threads are often Amusing examples of Human Behavior isolated from the normal modes of communication. There is limited context, no tone or inflection, no body language. We have only our own interpretation of the meaning of words on a page. This is often read very differently from the Intent of the original poster.

Contentious threads are just going to Happen. We have a lot of members, and more all the time. It takes while to get to know everyone.

If a thread explodes into Flames, try to Blow them down with a few carefully chosen words. Or simply ignore it. There are always Plenty of good things to read around here.

I know it took me a while to learn to post. And when NOT to post. Sometimes things people post Do make me angry. But instead of firing off a short-tempered, little considered post, I try to take my time, understand the Intent of the words that made me angry, and respond (if at all) with some wit, humor, and candor.

I agree,
I mysel am very tired especially of certain members bashing on others....

Lets all just get along.......

Agreed,

Remember though with over 5,500+ members we will have a few threads go astray. We will also remember those threads, more so than others, as it is human nature to do so.

It is how we handle them that we will be judged by.

You think you have problems, look at this:
As of May 1, 2000, RCN/DNAI will no longer be offering Wavepath wireless access services.

We have been increasingly disappointed with the level of service we are able to provide to our Wavepath wireless customers and have decided not to continue offering this service.

We will help customers transition to a different access method (DSL, Frame-Relay, T1) as appropriate and waive the setup fee as long as the order is placed prior to May 1, 2000. For customers who would like to continue to use the Wavepath wireless service, you will need to choose an alternative ISP from the list at [blah, blah, blah]
Yeah right, I haven't experienced any problems, you screwed up your revenue analysis. Arrrrggghh....

I guess I too have to agree with the Doc

Reading the posts throughly before replying, I have fell victim to some gag posts in the past because of this. I too must agree BladeForums.com is a place to discuss knives and their close relations, not way off the wall topics or to bash others. Non useful pics should slow down too, takes up too much room and yes, it can be annoying at times from what I have found out the hard way. BUT I DO LOVE SEEING PICS OF KNIVES!

Just my opinion and 1 cent worth!

Why do they (inflammatory threads)happen?? With that many members on board some do not read posts well before replying, some do not read replies well before replying to those replies or take them tooooo seriously (I think that´s the last case), some do not understand English well enough (like me) to reply correctly, some reply incorrectly to those incorrect replies or maybe.... they just want to reply the way they do...or...

Do you understand???????

A worthy subject for a first post. Reading those threads was painful. I understand getting your toes stomped - whether real or imagined - is not fun. However, is it asking too much, to take a step back, take a breath, reread/reexamine, pretend that a little friendly interchange may be informative rather than threatening?

In the final analysis, even if the tootsies were mangled, I submit that a series of personal attacks resolves nothing. The issue(s) is(are) further muddied, and users(non-plused) stare blankly at their screens feeling a bit embarrassed.

Frankly I am amazed/impressed by the flamees' (is that a word?) behavior. They showed great poise under fire. I doubt that I could display such restraint given similar circumstances.

The only reason to start personally attacking someone during a discussion is if you can't deal with the issues. Therefore you must try to bully them into submission, get the discussion stopped by a moderator by taunting them into a shouting match or at the very least cloud the issue enough so that the main points are lost and no one remembers what the thread was about in the first place.

So basically before you go off on someone who is just ranting, realize what they are doing implies. It is a reflection on them, not on you, and nothing to be concerned about. One person cannot make a flame war and they do not look that sensible ranting in the middle of a thread when they are being ignored. Talk around them and focus on the knife content.

-Cliff

Guys, you're all right, of course. I agree full-heartedly and I apologize for falling into the trap that was laid for me! It's tough sometimes, though, and there are other stressors at play. Anyway, I apologize to the folks who are sick and tired of seeing negative threads. I am one of them! I won't let it happen again...

Dr.V,

Just recovered from a "Inflammatory thread" which i'm sure some of you have encountered in the knife review section.....Heck! call me sensitive or whatever but i do feel like some folks here are giving me the nick-in-butt.....maybe is my english or just plain old me....Had a good night sleep and it's over.

I'm sure everyone is tired of such negative threads but sometimes one just can't help it. I'm gonna explain myself here a bit so bare with me. What i did was to express my feelings, no flame war intended. If you read it and feel like answering to it, by all means. If not, just ignor it. I myself had started a few of such thread and my apologies.

What do you mean nonsense? Are you hinting that bladeforums members have nothing better to do than to respond to pointless troll posts, further cluttering the net with more idiot drivel?

JUST WHAT ARE YOU ACCUSING US OF?

It's just cabin fever. Last winter/spring it was the same.

We've all had a bed day on occasion. You open up the forum, read a post, and, since you're already having a bad day, decide to put your two cents worth in. Probably not smart but we are human and sometimes do dumb things.

Is it good or bad? Who knows. If I wanted a nice, easy, everybody get along forum, I'd go to knitting.com.

the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak (totally incapable in the original Greek). and kit....whats that bed day thing mean?? is that like a day where you cant get out of bed??
