broke down and ordered a matriarch last nite - should get in about a wk - want it for my wife to carry for defense - are these pretty good knives? why were they LEO only? is there any tape, etc designed to instruct in techniques for this knife? what is your general opinion? i paid $59.95 + s&h so didnt break the bank LOL - WHY is the civilian so much higher? the only differnce i see are the G10 handles - am i missing something? looks like a hell of a lot of knife for 60 bucks IMHO - looks mean anyway...

thanks for any info

Lots of material on the Matriarch available over at the Spyderco Forum; do a search, and you'll learn far more than I can explain in a few short sentences. Basically the Matriarch is a good knife for the money, but only for self-defense, not everyday practical cutting, the LEO-only thing has a lot to do with Spyderco's knives as tools orientation, and the Civilian is purposely priced high.

the only differences in materials between the matriarch and the civilian is the civilian has either G-10 or carbon fiber handles while the matriarch is zytel and the civilian blade ,although the same style as the matriarch, is larger overall in length and width...one major difference for me is the matriarch is tip up carry which i prefer as opposed to the tip down carry the civilian offers

where did you order your matriarch from?....you can email your answer to feverdoc@yahoo.com
