Hello -- my brother-in-law is Canadian and lives in Barrie, Ontario. On a recent visit he showed me (2) knives which he purchased in 1985 from a then popular knife maker named Lyle Curtis. The knives have white micarta handles and are scrimshawed by a man named Charlie Hargraves. Both were older gentlemen and popular knive makers at the time. They are a matching set and display a scrimshawed pic of an elk on the smaller one and a caribu on the larger one. We are interested in selling the knives and would like some info on both Lyle Curtis and Charlie Hargraves.

Has anyone ever heard of these gentlemen?
Are they still alive and making knives?
What is the approximate value of each knife?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich

I have never met Mr Curtis but have met Charlie Hargraves, a remarkable artist. I don't think that he is still doing scrimshaw on a regular basis anymore though.

I don't have any contact information for you.

Charles Hargraves is my father, please let me know if you are still trying to contact him. He is still doing his Scrimshaw work....
