So, now that I've finally got the cash I've decided to order a Khukuri from H.I. I do own several Khukuri's from other makers, but I've heard nothing but songs of praise for H.I. and am finally going to try them out. I've had no problems with my current blades, and I'm really wanting to see what advantages there are with a H.I. blade.

Right now I'm looking at the CAK, and am wondering about the details of the heat treat. On the RC scale, where does this blade fall? I've noticed that my current Khukuri's are tempered soft at the tip and at the recurve portion, is this the same with the CAK?

Thanks

Welcome solphilos!
H.I. khukuri are HT'ed to around 58 Rc.
Any good and reputable real traditional khukuri will be soft/un heat-treated at the tip and the recurve. This is because the recurve is not used for chopping and if hardened would be very difficult to maintain and the tip is soft so that it will not shatter in your face if you should hit a rock or metal while chopping. The Rest of the khukuri is un-HT'ed to give the blade all the toughness, impact resistance and flexibility that good 5160 spring steel can provide.
